The arrival of Saint Nerona Imu in Elbaph (chapter 1179) signals that One Piece is entering its most thrilling stage yet. For the first time, the series’ most powerful Devil Fruit will be fully unleashed. While hints of its abilities appeared in the Egghead Arc, Oda is now revealing more about how it works in Elbaph. The full scope of its power hasn’t been shown, but that’s about to change, starting with chapter 1180 of the One Piece manga.
Breaking Down Nerona Imu’s ‘Akuma no Mi’ Abilities
Nerona Imu possesses a special Devil Fruit, known as Akuma no Mi, that stands apart from all others in the One Piece world. Unlike other Devil Fruits, it doesn’t have a double name and is written in Katakana instead of Kanji. This fruit is simply called ‘The Devil’s Fruit,’ suggesting it’s the original source of all other Devil Fruit powers – and those powers are immense. Eiichiro Oda, the series creator, has already hinted at some of its abilities. For example, it can transform Imu, giving him features like giant horns, tanned skin, large wings, a pointed tail, and a cloud of black flames filled with eyes. This fruit also allows Imu to extend demonic powers directly into his surroundings.
Imu can summon a spellbook and use different kinds of magic, including creating weapons and making unbreakable agreements with enemies – we saw this during battles against Rocks D. Xebec, Dorry, and Brogy. It’s clear Imu has immense power. Another ability granted by Imu’s Devil Fruit is the ability to form powerful pacts with followers. Those who swear loyalty to Imu can gain incredible benefits through these pacts, like immortality, endless healing, and super strength. So far, there are three known pacts:
- the Shallow Sea Covenant
- the Depths Covenant
- the Abyssal Covenant
Imu possesses incredibly powerful abilities. We’ve already seen hints of this, like his ability to fully transform into a demonic form – first glimpsed when Sabo confronted him. Oda has revealed some of Imu’s Devil Fruit powers, but there’s much more to be uncovered in the upcoming Elbaph Arc.
How Elbaph’s Climax Will Unleash The Strongest Devil Fruit’s Full Potential
Okay, so I’m so hyped for the Elbaf arc! We’re finally going to see what Imu’s Devil Fruit can really do, and all signs point to it being a seriously powerful Mythical Zoan type. Remember that crazy transformation we saw? That was just a glimpse! It looks like Imu’s power is channeled through this ancient magic book – it’s how he creates those incredible magical circles. With those circles, he can do anything – conjure weapons out of thin air, force people into unbreakable contracts, basically enslave them, and even make enemies fight each other! It’s a terrifying combination, and I can’t wait to see it all unfold.
The Holy Land…I leave to thee! — Imu, Chapter 1179
These powers are extremely dangerous, and the author, Oda, will likely showcase their full potential in future One Piece chapters. This will likely begin with chapter 1180, where Imu will unleash everything she’s capable of in Elbaph.
Scaling The Power Gap Between Luffy’s Nika And Imu’s Akuma Form
Despite understanding he’d be significantly weakened and facing a two-on-one battle against Nika and Nidhoggr, Imu still traveled to Elbaph alone. This demonstrates that Imu’s power surpasses even the combined strength of Nika and Nidhoggr.
Imu’s Haki appears to be as powerful as Joy Boy’s, currently the strongest Haki demonstrated in the series. Neither Luffy nor Loki’s Haki has reached that level, highlighting just how much stronger Imu is – far surpassing even Nika at this moment.

How Imu’s Devil Form Will Trigger The Endgame Of The Series
Imu’s transformation into the Devil on Elbaph is likely the event that starts the final arc of One Piece. This powerful, destructive form probably means Luffy and Loki will be defeated, and Elbaph will fall under the control of the World Government. There’s a chance Luffy and Loki could save Elbaph by sacrificing themselves, but either way, their defeat will kick off the final war in the story.
Ultimately, all of Monkey D. Luffy’s allies will likely join forces and declare war on the World Government, potentially sparking the final, decisive conflict in the series. Eiichiro Oda has hinted that Luffy’s fleet, the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, will be crucial in what’s to come, and Luffy’s defeat by Imu might be the event that finally sets them into action and begins the end of the One Piece story.
One Piece Chapter 1180 will be available to read on Manga Plus on April 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. EST.
