That was the first time we really saw him, not just heard his name, and it totally changed the character for me. Before that, he felt like this abstract evil, but Fiennes made him feel…real, and terrifyingly cold. What struck me most was that he didn’t overact or try to be flashy. He was just incredibly precise and menacing, and that’s what made his performance so unforgettable.

Suggesting Tilda Swinton as a potential Voldemort feels like an interesting idea because her on-screen persona is subtly unsettling – arguably a better fit for the character than the traditionally dramatic portrayals we often see. The challenge with Voldemort, though, is that the most obvious acting choices rarely make for the most compelling performance.

Can HBO’s Harry Potter Justify Its Return?

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about this new Harry Potter series, and the fact that they’re taking ten years to make it is a good sign. It means they’re not going to try and cram everything into a short runtime, and they can really let the characters develop naturally. Apparently, the first season, covering Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will be eight episodes long – that’s more time than the original movie had! Honestly, that extra screen time is what will make or break this series. It’s either going to be amazing and justify why they needed so much space, or it’ll feel like they’re just stretching things out for no reason. I’m hoping for the former, obviously!

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is being promoted as a truer retelling of J.K. Rowling’s books. While this sounds promising, it also sets high expectations, especially for devoted fans. The first season closely follows the story most viewers already know: Harry’s arrival at Hogwarts, his friendships with Ron and Hermione, and the growing sense that Voldemort’s power still lingers.

I’m so excited about the cast! Dominic McLaughlin is playing Harry, Alastair Stout is Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger. And the supporting actors are incredible – John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and even Nick Frost as Hagrid! I’ve also heard Francesca Gardiner is showrunning, and Mark Mylod is directing some of the episodes, which is fantastic news.
