Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Requiem, recently discussed a major surprise involving Leon S. Kennedy in the game. Set 21 years after Resident Evil 4 – Leon’s previous appearance – Resident Evil Requiem demonstrates how much the world of Resident Evil, including Raccoon City, has evolved over the years, both in terms of gameplay and the overall story.
Leon is one of the main characters in Resident Evil Requiem, and his parts of the game are full of exciting action thanks to his skills in combat. Fans who have followed Leon since Resident Evil 2 enjoyed seeing how he’s changed over the years, both in looks and personality. The game also includes fun hidden references that let players revisit his early days as a police officer.
Resident Evil Requiem Director Talks About Leon’s Ring
A small detail in Resident Evil Requiem – Leon Kennedy wearing a wedding ring – has sparked a lot of discussion among fans. While it’s a very quick shot, many players noticed it, and the game’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, confirmed it’s there. This led to speculation about who Leon might have married, with Ada Wong being a popular guess. However, Nakanishi explained in an interview that the ring was simply meant to show Leon’s growth and maturity over time. He intentionally didn’t want it to be a major plot point, anticipating fans would focus on his potential wife, but he feels that isn’t crucial to the overall story of Requiem.

The developers are currently keeping Leon’s romantic partner a mystery, but fans are already intensely speculating about who it could be. Besides Ada Wong, Claire Redfield – who Leon teamed up with in the original Resident Evil 2 – is a popular guess. This highlights what the director, Nakanishi, said – players only noticed the wedding ring and started thinking about Leon’s marriage after they saw it. On a brighter note, fans are really enjoying the story and new characters, Grace Ashcroft and Emily, in Resident Evil Requiem.
During the same interview with DenFamicoGamer, Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa explained why Ada Wong wasn’t included in Resident Evil Requiem. They stated that, during development, they didn’t find any scenes where her character was essential to the story. This was a good decision, as Resident Evil Requiem primarily centers on Leon and Grace battling a new outbreak and searching for a cure using the Elpis serum. However, Ada could still appear in future Resident Evil games, particularly if Leon becomes a more prominent, recurring character like Chris Redfield.

After the huge popularity of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is developing downloadable content (DLC) for the game. While we don’t know exactly when it will be released or what the story will be, Capcom has confirmed a new mini-game is coming. There’s a good chance this mini-game will be Mercenaries Mode, and it might include characters from Resident Evil Outbreak, such as Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother.
