Saros Confirms PS5 Features and PS5 Pro Enhancements

Saros, launching in just a few weeks, is expected to be a major PlayStation 5 exclusive this year, alongside highly anticipated titles like Marvel’s Wolverine. Now, before its April 30th release, the developers at Housemarque have revealed the special features and improvements planned specifically for the PlayStation 5 Pro version of Saros.

After the major success of Returnal, a highly praised PlayStation 5 exclusive, Housemarque is developing a new game called Saros that expands on the gameplay of their 2021 hit. Announced in early 2025 during a State of Play presentation, Saros was originally planned for a March 2026 release, but has been delayed by one month. It will now launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on April 30th.

Saros Reveals PS5 Pro Enhancements

Housemarque’s upcoming bullet hell shooter, Saros, is launching in a few weeks! A recent blog post from the game’s creative director, Gregory Louden, details the special features for PlayStation 5 Pro owners. One major improvement is enhanced support for PSSR technology. With the release of PSSR 2 last month, Saros will deliver a remarkably sharp image – Housemarque claims it will be almost indistinguishable from native 4K resolution.

Seppo Halonen, Housemarque’s technical director, explained that Saros on the PS5 Pro benefits from a higher base render resolution – the initial resolution before any upscaling is applied. This results in a noticeably clearer picture for players, even while maintaining a smooth 60 frames per second. According to Halonen, even with dynamic resolution adjustments to keep the frame rate stable during intense action, the PS5 Pro consistently delivers a sharper image. He added that the PS5 Pro’s increased power allows Housemarque to refine Saros’ graphics with subtle improvements to reflections and overall quality, ensuring the upgrade provides more than just extra pixels – the content itself looks better at a higher scale.

Saros enhances the already impressive quality of Returnal with more precise 3D audio, promising a deeper sense of immersion on the PlayStation 5 using Tempest 3D AudioTech. According to the creative director, players wearing 3D audio headphones or using a compatible sound system will be able to hear sounds—from the environment of Carcosa to enemies and even the music—all around them. The game also takes full advantage of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers. Gently pressing the L2 trigger activates the weapon’s alternate fire mode, offering options like grenade launchers or slower, more powerful shots. Fully pressing L2 activates the Eclipse Power Weapon, allowing players to fire back at enemies using collected projectiles absorbed by their Soltari Shield.

Saros will take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s fast SSD to offer incredibly quick loading times. The developers have also focused on making the game’s DualSense controller feedback more detailed and immersive. According to the creative director, players can expect some unique and surprising sensations through the controller, but they’re keeping the specifics a secret for now.
