A recently created, realistically designed low-income apartment in The Sims 4 is gaining popularity among players. While the game is known for its glamorous content created by the developers, many players appreciate the boundless building options and are now seeking more down-to-earth, gritty creations.
Released on February 12th, The Sims 4‘s Royalty and Legacy expansion introduces themes of family history, royal life, and dramatic storylines. While it adds a fantastical element to the already magical world of The Sims 4 – which already includes vampires, fairies, and wizards – some players are hoping for more relatable, everyday experiences instead of all the extravagance.
Low-Rent Apartment Created in The Sims 4 Hits Close to Home for Many Players
A player has gained attention online for building a very realistic, low-income apartment in the game. Reddit user IronKnight05 created an apartment with cracked and stained walls, simple window coverings, and a small, impractical layout. Many players appreciate this design because it’s a refreshing change from the game’s focus on luxury homes – even with the recent addition of apartments in the ‘For Rent’ expansion for The Sims 4. It seems players are enjoying a more relatable and down-to-earth living space.
This apartment is getting a lot of attention from players, and not always for the best reasons. Many have pointed out the strange choice to leave out a sink in the bathroom. The tiny kitchen is also remarkably impractical, with the limited counter space positioned so awkwardly next to the refrigerator that it’s hard to use. The player who created the apartment explained their Sim mostly eats chicken nuggets, which is still possible to make thanks to a slightly tilted microwave. One player was relieved the bedroom at least had a standard bed frame, since being trapped in a Murphy bed is a unique (and potentially fatal) way for a Sim to die in The Sims 4.
Some Sims 4 players are particularly impressed with a new, somewhat run-down communal laundry room. It has peeling paint, broken tiles, and an old boiler, leading some to joke they wouldn’t want to be there at night. The player who created it actually found inspiration – and some of the building elements – on The Sims 4 Gallery, and is still working on completing the look as they don’t have all the necessary expansion packs.

If you want to build this look in The Sims 4, you’ll need some custom content. Many players are especially interested in the vintage TV with knobs, which appears to be the only form of entertainment in the simple living room.
