This article discusses events from episode 3 of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime season 4, titled “The Avatar Team is Formed,” and contains spoilers. You can watch it on Crunchyroll.
The latest episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Season 4 starts with Rimuru, Lilim, and Veldora training to improve how they use their abilities within the upgraded Dungeon, which is now being challenged by adventurers. This season has been lighthearted and enjoyable, focusing on the Monster Nation’s efforts to build peaceful relations with humans. However, things are starting to get more complicated. After learning about Yuuki Kagurazaka’s manipulative plans, he’s changed tactics, now aiming to become a dominant power in the west with the help of a larger, hidden scheme.
Season 4 is picking up the pace, diving deeper into the motivations of the villains by episode 3. This sets the stage for a compelling strategic battle between Rimuru and the Rozzos.
The New and Improved Dungeon
Demon Lords Enjoy the Feeling of Accomplishment in the Dungeon
After receiving feedback that the new dungeon was too difficult, Rimuru and his advisors – including the dungeon’s creator, Ramiris, and powerful allies like Milim Nava and Veldora – redesigned it to be a dungeon that grows more challenging as players progress. This new format proved incredibly popular, attracting adventurers from all over. While clearing all 100 floors earns a reward of 100 stellar coins, Rimuru and Mjolmille intentionally made it nearly impossible to complete. However, a particularly strong adventuring group called Team Green Fury is making rapid progress, currently on the 49th floor and easily defeating each boss they encounter.

The last episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime featured Rimuru showing the Dungeon Council magical devices that create avatars for them to use inside the Dungeon. The idea was to let them experience the Dungeon firsthand and secretly deal with Team Green Fury without causing a stir. Unfortunately, they weren’t very good at controlling these avatar bodies. While the episode could have been simply enjoyable and lighthearted, it was a bit frustrating to watch them struggle. Luckily, the episode also moved the Dungeon’s storyline forward in a meaningful way, which ultimately saved it.
The Antagonists Are Finally Truly Revealed
Introducing the Otherworlder Known As Mariabel Rozzo
The most compelling part of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime season 4, episode 3 is finally learning more about the main villains, the Rozzos – the royal family of the Kingdom of Seltrozzo. We’ve seen glimpses of Mariabell and her grandfather, Granville, before, both in earlier episodes this season and as the hidden forces behind events in season 3. However, this episode is the first time we truly get to understand their motivations and who they are as characters.
We’d seen clues that some characters might be from another world, like Rimuru – specifically, Hinata Sakaguchi, the leader of the Western Holy Church’s Holy Knights, and Yuuki Kagurazaka, a known schemer. But in a captivating reveal, Mariabell explains her origins and purpose. She recounts her life as a wealthy European noble who secretly controlled the world, causing immense suffering to others, before eventually passing away peacefully in old age.
She was reborn in the world of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime as part of the Rozzo family, and received a powerful ability that would help her rise to power. This ability, called Greed, lets Mariabel control people by exploiting their desires – the more ambitious someone is, the easier they are to manipulate.
She gradually gained influence over everyone around her – her family, staff, acquaintances, and anyone she regularly dealt with. When she finally met her grandfather, Granville, the head of the Rozzo family, he questioned why she hadn’t tried to control him as she did others. She explained that she recognized his great ambition, but also the remarkable willpower he possessed to keep it in check. This provided a fascinating introduction to her character and effectively revealed the long-standing plan she and Granville had been developing since their first appearance.
The Rozzo World Domination Project
Mariabel Is The Indisputable Primary Antagonist of This Arc
The Rozzo family has become a powerful force protecting humanity from monsters, and they’re aiming to expand their control worldwide. Mariabel is excited by this, as it offers her another chance to live a life of wealth and influence, secretly pulling the strings. Episode 3 was particularly engaging when focusing on Mariabel, and using her as the narrator of the Rozzo family’s plans was very effective. It’s revealed that the events orchestrated weren’t Granville Rozzo’s doing, but Mariabel’s. She’s the main villain, and an interesting contrast to Rimuru, who is also from another world, but with a vastly different background.
The latest episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime season 4 delivered a major surprise: Yuuki Kagurazaka isn’t just supported by the Rozzos, he’s completely controlled by Mariabel. This was a fantastic way to introduce the season’s villains, especially since Yuuki initially appears to be the one in charge. His response to whether he could beat Rimuru – that it depends on the circumstances – raises questions about how powerful everyone really is. The reveal that Mariabel was actually pulling the strings through Yuuki, and that this came after Yuuki seemed so capable, suggests he’s a genuine threat to Rimuru. This paints Mariabel as a truly dangerous and powerful force in the story.

A and B Stories Converge In Decent Fashion to Set Up For the Main Draw This Season
Episode 3 feels a bit disjointed. It’s enjoyable watching Rimuru and the other Demon Lords succeed in the Dungeons and show off their progress, but these scenes don’t quite connect with the growing tension surrounding Mariabel. What elevates this Dungeon arc beyond simple entertainment is that it allows Yuuki to continue secretly observing Rimuru and Tempest, as instructed by the Rozzos.
Kagurazaka, working through his connections with Team Green Fury and the Adventurer Guild, has been monitoring the Kingdom of Monsters for Mariabel. She’s now devised a plan to isolate Rimuru and force a final showdown with Yuuki. Worryingly, Mariabel intends to corrupt Rimuru’s dream of a monster-human utopia with her power, twisting it into something bloody and terrible.
Season 4 of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is resolving plot threads that became repetitive in the previous season, particularly the endless meetings and discussions. Episode 3 improved things by presenting information in a more engaging way, especially through scenes with Mariabel which moved the story forward. The short scene after the credits also built suspense, showing a disheartened Duke Muese of the Kingdom of Ghastone being followed by Sо̄’ei.
He was sent by the Rozzos to cause trouble for Tempest. His plan involved merchants at the Founding Festival in season 3 of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime – they were instructed to only accept Dwarven currency, which would have bankrupted Tempest. However, Tempest anticipated such a scheme. Before Sо̄’ei could capture and interrogate Muese, an unknown attacker killed him.
