Nintendo has unveiled Splatoon Raiders, marking it as the inaugural spin-off game within the franchise. This upcoming exclusive title is destined for the Nintendo Switch 2. In addition, an update for Splatoon 3 was disclosed, bringing fresh content and enhanced visuals tailored specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In simpler terms, the Splatoon trilogy is a series of games emphasizing multiplayer action, but also containing single-player parts serving mainly as tutorials for gameplay mechanics. The downloadable content (DLC) typically includes more extensive solo play options, along with additional details about the characters and the universe of Splatoon.

Unexpectedly, Nintendo unveiled Splatoon Raiders via the Nintendo Today app, followed by its video release on YouTube. This fresh title, a spin-off, showcases characters from Splatoon 3, shifting them from ink wars to embarking on adventures instead.

Splatoon Raiders Takes The Deep Cut Trio On An Adventure

In the short trailer for Splatoon Raiders, we see that players take on the role of a character known as “The Mechanic,” who assists the Deep Cut Trio in their journey through the Spirhalite Islands. At this point, it remains undecided whether this game will be multiplayer or if it marks Splatoon’s first single-player experience.

Beyond this, Nintendo has shared news about an upcoming free upgrade for Splatoon 3, scheduled for June 12. This new version introduces 30 different weapon combinations, reintroduces the Urchin Underpass stage from the initial game, increases the Freshness limits on weapons, and incorporates a new efficiency ranking system in the Anarchy Battle mode to pair players with similar abilities. Moreover, it enhances the graphics on the Switch 2.

Instead of unveiling this news during the Switch 2’s launch event or as part of its initial Direct, it’s quite unexpected that Nintendo chose to “drop” it casually a few days later. Given Splatoon’s significant status among Nintendo’s current franchises, it seems fitting that such an announcement should have received more attention and fanfare.
