The responses have been varied, coming from all kinds of viewers, and the results were surprising! The top pick wasn’t who many expected, and the top 10 list shows that there’s someone for everyone – no matter the personality or looks.
The Spring 2026 anime season started in April, following a strong Winter season that included popular shows like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, and Hell’s Paradise Season 2. Luckily, the current Spring season also has several critically acclaimed series, such as the adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier and a new anime from Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa called Daemons of the Shadow Realm. As usual, several male characters have become fan favorites, and a recent survey is showing who’s currently the most popular.
Japanese Poll Asks ‘Which Male Character in the Spring 2026 Anime Season Did You Fall in Love With at First Sight?’
Anime Anime, a Japanese website, recently polled fans about which male character from the Spring 2026 anime season they instantly fell for. The poll ran from April 25th to 30th and received 221 responses, with roughly 60% of respondents identifying as male and 40% as female. While many predicted Qifrey from Witch Hat Atelier would win, he came in second place. Instead, Kyoichiro Yozakura, the charming but dangerous character from Season 2 of Mission: Yozakura Family, took the top spot. A three-way tie for third place included Juzo Ogami from Kill Blue, Minato Kusunoki from Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods, and Amane Fujimiya from the romantic comedy The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten.
The recent poll revealed the ten male characters viewers most instantly connected with, and the results included a few unexpected ties!

Yuru, a character from Daemons of the Shadow Realm, and SAI, the brilliant mathematician from Season 4 of Dr. Stone, also received high rankings. Some of the more unique characters on the list include Mei Kinosaki from Marriagetoxin, who disguises himself as a woman to swindle people, and Kujima, an unusual creature with both bird and human traits. Mao’s appearance isn’t surprising, as male protagonists created by Rumiko Takahashi—like Inuyasha and Ranma Saotome—are often very popular.
Although Qifrey didn’t become the most popular anime of the season, both he and Witch Hat Atelier have been a major success in Western audiences, making it a highlight of the Spring 2026 anime season. The series was originally announced in 2022 but faced delays when the production company, Bug Films, requested more time to ensure high quality. This extra time proved beneficial, as viewers and critics have praised the show’s animation, music, and characters. Currently, it has a score of 8.76 on MyAnimeList (MAL).
