The Story So Far

Before we take a detailed look at Chapter 122, let’s quickly remember what’s been happening in Aushrine – the Elven Village and the place where the World Tree originated.

Vlad originally came from Dobrecheti. A local lord asked him to capture someone accused of attacking merchant caravans, but it was a trick.

The caravans in question were actually some shady “tea deal” (not gonna say the D word here, but you take the hint) between the elves and the corrupt nobles, and the brigand was none other than the former Knight Captain of the Imperial Guard, who was just doing what honorable knights are supposed to do: Beat evil guys to a pulp.

The disagreement between Vlad and the Old Man ended without a clear winner, as they both agreed to discuss the situation. Once they understood what was happening – that the elves weren’t working with the corrupt nobles, but were actually deceiving them to weaken the human Empire – they attempted to negotiate a peaceful resolution.

Vlad quickly connected with the spirits of the area, and the Elven Priestess, who looked after the World Tree, was immediately attracted to him—not surprisingly. This story seems to be heading in an interesting direction, but hopefully it won’t turn into a situation where the main character has multiple romantic interests.

Vlad Slays His Third Dragon

With a new romantic interest in tow, Vlad was permitted to contact the spirit of the World Tree, since he was carrying an heirloom from House Heinal, which contained a remnant of the Old World Tree.

As Vlad entered the area, he encountered the Spirit of the First Swordmaster—a crucial figure in the story’s history and someone with a strong connection to the unique way Vlad learned to fight with a sword.

At first, the sword wouldn’t respond to Vlad. But when two dragons attacked the Elven Village and shattered his own weapon, he grabbed the Swordmaster’s sword. This time, it worked perfectly, and he defeated his third dragon – he’d already taken down another one on the way, as he was incredibly powerful and had time to spare.

Vlad’s armor, once proudly displaying the title “Vlad, Protector of Children,” was completely destroyed in battle. He also had to give up the Swordmaster’s Sword, which seemed determined to remain with the Elves it had been protecting. As a gesture of goodwill, the Elven Priestess and Elders invited Vlad to rest in their village while they worked on creating new armor and weapons for him.

Vlad completed the ritual and finally met the elderly man who had given him his first sword. Together, they reforged a blade from strange, spiritually powerful materials. What happens next is crucial to the story’s outcome.

Star Embracing Swordmaster Chapter 122 – The Crossroads, A Full Review

Vlad has been incredibly successful, accomplishing one feat after another. Having defeated three dragons and earned six emblems for his banner, he’s become a model knight. Fans of the Chivalry game have already guessed the direction of the story: there’s plenty of room on his banner for more achievements, similar to how Ash Ketchum collects badges.

Setting aside other similarities, Vlad’s newfound ability to fight an adult dragon means he’s likely to encounter the Dragon Slaying Knights again. Plus, Duke Dragulia has unexpectedly shown up, hinting that the story is finally moving towards a showdown between Vlad and his potential family.

A popular fan theory suggests a strong connection between Vlad and Mircea Dragulia, the Duke’s eldest son. The resemblance between them is hard to ignore. Despite being on opposing sides, it seems likely they’ll cross paths – perhaps as enemies, or even as allies – in the coming battle against the remaining dragons.

Even though Vlad was once a Knight Errant and was exiled, he’s still officially part of the Bayezid family. This connection could cause problems if he and another character were to meet, given the current storyline.

Interestingly, the conclusion of Chapter 122 suggests this might be true. The Elven Priestess subtly warned Vlad, telling him not to go left at the Crossroads. The chapter then ends with a shocking scene: the newly introduced mystery knight is about to be defeated by the leader of the Dragon Slaying Knights.

This incredible cliffhanger brews even more tension as what happened throughout the plot starts to fit in, piece by piece. The Dragulia Dukedom seems to be interested in finding the Elder Dragon Shards, and the Iron Duke (who is the clear Big Bad Evil Guy/Final Boss) is absolutely opposed to them.

There’s conflict brewing on the horizon, and the story carries us over in a spectacular fashion. This tale has been more than captivating; no wonder it has become one of the top 10 Action Manhwa.
