During a recent earnings discussion, South Korean game studio Shift Up announced they will be handling the publishing of the next Stellar Blade game. The original Stellar Blade was created by Shift Up but published by Sony, initially as a PlayStation 5 exclusive before being released on PC about a year later.
When Stellar Blade launched on PlayStation 5 in April 2024, it was very well-received by critics. The game currently has an average score of 81 from top critics on OpenCritic, with 81% of critics recommending it. Dalton Cooper from TopMob gave Stellar Blade a 9 out of 10, highlighting its exciting combat, impressive boss battles, and extensive customization. He noted that the game’s side quests could be improved, but overall praised its over-the-top style.
Stellar Blade 2 Is Being Published by Shift Up
As a huge fan of Stellar Blade, I was really excited to see Shift Up’s latest earnings report! They announced they’re handling the publishing of Stellar Blade 2 all on their own. It sounds like they’re moving to a model where they control everything directly. Apparently, they felt it was important to be able to really showcase the game’s unique style and world exactly how they envision it, and to connect with us, the players, in a more personal and impactful way with the marketing. It’s cool to see them taking full creative control!

Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade, has announced it’s planning a strong launch strategy to reach as many players worldwide as possible. While they haven’t officially said Stellar Blade 2 will be available on anything other than PlayStation 5, their comments suggest that’s the goal. They’ve also indicated they’re considering bringing the original Stellar Blade to additional platforms, a plan they first mentioned a few months ago. However, they haven’t yet revealed which platforms those might be.
During the same earnings call, Shift Up announced they will publish the next game from Unbound directly, without relying on outside partners. Unbound is a game studio founded by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil and a former leader at Capcom. Shift Up recently acquired Unbound last month.
Stellar Blade 2 Should Be Revealed This Year
Sony won’t be publishing a sequel to Stellar Blade, but Shift Up recently indicated a full reveal of Stellar Blade 2 is planned for later this year. This information came during a presentation of their recent earnings, where they stated details about the sequel would be shared before the end of the year. The presentation also included updates on Project Spirits, a fantasy RPG for multiple platforms that was first announced in June 2025 and is still being developed. We can expect news about Project Spirits later this year as well.
