Stranger Than Heaven Reveals Story Details and Full Cast Including Snoop Dogg

I’m so hyped for Sega’s new game, Stranger Than Heaven! They just dropped a trailer that finally shows us what the story’s about, where it takes place, and the whole cast – and get this, Snoop Dogg is in it! Now, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is famous for the Like A Dragon series, and this new game definitely has that same gritty vibe, focusing on characters involved in Japan’s criminal underworld. But it’s different because instead of happening now, the story unfolds over 50 years and takes you all over Japan, which is a really cool change of pace!

During The Game Awards 2024, Sega announced Stranger Than Heaven, originally known as Project Century. The game tells the story of Makoto Daito, a Japanese American man who leaves San Francisco by boat in 1915, seeking a better life in his mother’s homeland. Players will experience Makoto’s life over the next fifty years as he travels throughout Japan, offering a glimpse into the country’s changing landscape during the 20th century.

Stranger Than Heaven Cast Includes Snoop Dogg

The new film, Stranger Than Heaven, boasts a diverse cast of both Japanese and international talent. Snoop Dogg and his son, Cordell Broadus, will play the roles of Orpheus and the mysterious ‘veiled stranger,’ alongside American singer Tori Kelly as Suzy Day. Japanese singers Satoshi Fujihara and Ado will portray Takashi and Keiko Shirai, bringing their voices and likenesses to the characters. Yu Shirota, Dean Fujioka, Moeka Hoshi, Akio Otsuka, and Tokyma Nishioka complete the cast, joining the story as it follows the protagonist, Makoto, through five different settings and time periods. Makoto is an original character, designed to feel similar in style to Kazuma Kiryu and Ichiban Kasuga from the Like A Dragon series.

The late, celebrated Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara, who died in 2014, will appear in Stranger Than Heaven thanks to computer-generated imagery created from existing footage, and with permission from his family. Takashi Ukaji, a close friend of Sugawara’s, will provide the voice for his character, Genzo Iwaki. The film is now slated for release in winter 2026, a more specific timeframe than the previously announced release window of sometime in 2027.

The game’s trailer shows a lot of cutscenes, but also gameplay featuring both fighting and musical performances. Players will control Makoto, who gets into street brawls, but also manages and performs with a group of singers he’s assembled. The game’s story unfolds during both World Wars, and these historical events are woven into Makoto’s journey.
