I think Pokemon is going to dominate this summer for 3 massive reasons

The Pokémon franchise is planning a busy summer in 2026 for its fans. With new games on the horizon, opportunities to experience Pokémon in the real world, and the ongoing quest to become the ultimate Pokémon master, there are three main reasons why Pokémon is poised to be a major hit in the coming months.

With the 30th anniversary of Pokémon underway, fans have already seen exciting announcements like Pokémon Pokopia, a brand-new life simulation game, and Pokémon Champions, a return to the arena battling style of Pokémon Stadium. We’ve also gotten a sneak peek at the upcoming Pokémon Winds & Waves. Although it’s been a month since the last big reveal, The Pokémon Company isn’t slowing down, and there’s much more planned for summer 2026.

Why Pokemon Will Be an Unstoppable Force in Summer 2026

Mobile gamers are in for a treat! Pokemon GO is adding Mega Mewtwo to the game as part of its GO Fest 2026 celebrations. Both Mega Evolved forms – X and Y – of this iconic Psychic-type legendary Pokemon are set to energize the game and get players excited about hunting them down. The GO Fest event will kick off with regional gatherings in Tokyo in late May, followed by Chicago and Copenhagen. Then, a free global event will take place on July 11-12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. At the regional events, players can encounter Mega Mewtwo X and Y through special research tasks. For the global event, players will need to assemble powerful teams that can counter psychic-types and participate in challenging Super Mega Raids to catch these powerful legendaries.

Pokémon and LEGO might be teaming up for even more building sets! LEGO released its first Pokémon kits earlier this year to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, letting fans build Pikachu, Eevee, and the original starter Pokémon. Now, rumors suggest new kits could include LEGO’s “Smart Brick” technology, which adds lights, sounds, and interactive features. LEGO recently used this technology in Star Wars sets, and expanding it to Pokémon could make the system even more popular.

The Pokemon World Championships are coming to San Francisco from August 28-30, bringing together the best players from around the globe. Competitions will be held for the classic video game, the trading card game, Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Unite. This year also marks the first-ever world championship for Pokemon Champions, the strategic battle game released on Switch and mobile devices in April. Because the game is so new, it will be especially interesting to see who quickly becomes a top Pokemon Champions player and what strategies prove to be the most effective, potentially shaping the game’s future.

Even people who don’t follow esports should pay attention to the Pokemon World Championships. These events are often used to announce major updates about current and future Pokemon games. This is particularly exciting this year, as fans are eagerly awaiting news on the new Pokemon Winds and Waves games – the tenth generation of Pokemon. While February’s Pokemon Presents gave us a first look at the new starters, the game’s region inspired by Southeast Asia, gym leaders, and story elements, many questions remain. Details like the complete Pokemon list, new battle features, and how the themes of wind and waves will be integrated into the game are still unknown. Fans may get some answers before the summer ends.
