On July 19th, there was an update released for the Nintendo Switch 2, resolving issues related to backwards compatibility with over a dozen games. As a result, users of the Nintendo Switch 2 can now enjoy a wider variety of games from Nintendo’s previous console in their library.
As an excited enthusiast, I must say that unlike many other gaming consoles, the Nintendo Switch 2 adopts a unique strategy when it comes to backward compatibility. It ingeniously blends hardware compatibility with software emulation to seamlessly transform old Switch games into a format suitable for the new console on-the-fly. However, it’s important to note that since the release of the Switch 2, some titles have faced challenges with backward compatibility. To keep players informed and avoid potential issues, Nintendo has thoughtfully compiled a list on their official site, clearly highlighting all the games that are currently experiencing problems, ensuring a smoother gaming experience for everyone using the new Switch 2.
According to Nintendo Everything, Nintendo has made further progress in enhancing the backward compatibility on the upcoming Switch 2 by addressing bugs in more than a dozen games through a recent update. This update, which was released on July 15 for the Nintendo Switch 2, fixed issues in 25 titles. Notable examples of these patched games include “Portal 2,” “Harvestella,” and “Crypt of the NecroDancer.” The updated games span various genres such as puzzle games, role-playing games (RPGs), and farm simulators, offering a diverse range of gaming experiences for players on their Switch 2.

The majority of these affected games are struggling with startup issues. Some previously released titles can be launched on the Switch 2, but they might encounter in-game compatibility problems, leading to malfunctions. Nintendo has acknowledged several other games with compatibility issues that they aim to rectify, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As a result, the library of backward compatible games on the Switch 2 is gradually improving as developers continue to work on resolving these persistent issues.
Since its debut, the Nintendo Switch 2 has already sold a massive amount of units, boasting a decent variety of third-party launch titles at release.
