Troy Baker Could Be Moving From Acting to Game Development

Troy Baker, known for his voice acting in popular games like The Last of Us and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has announced he’s starting to develop his own video game. He says he’s currently in the early stages, planning the story and assembling a team to bring his vision to life.

Troy Baker started his acting career in the mid-2000s by dubbing anime, including the character Gin in Case Closed. He also began working in video games around this time, with his first credited roles appearing in BloodRayne 2 (2004). Over the past two decades, Baker has become a highly respected actor in the gaming world, starring in popular titles like Batman: Arkham Origins, Resident Evil 6, Infamous Second Son, and The Last of Us. Recently, he received praise for playing the lead role in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Troy Baker Could Be Making His Own Video Game

Troy Baker recently told Eurogamer that he’s been fortunate to work with many incredibly talented directors and creators over the past few decades. He specifically mentioned learning a lot from people like Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Todd Howard, Neil Druckmann, and Vince Zampella, and now he’s eager to apply those lessons to create his own video game experience. He went on to say:

I’m really excited to learn from the most successful stories – not just by looking at sales numbers, but by understanding what makes those stories so impactful and enduring. Then, I want to use those lessons to improve my own storytelling process and create similarly compelling narratives.

Troy Baker also highlighted Abubakar Salim, an actor known for his work in many popular video games, most notably as Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Salim founded his own game studio, Surgent Studios, in 2020. Their first game, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, came out in 2024 and received several award nominations, including a Games for Impact nomination at The Game Awards. Surgent followed up with the horror game Dead Take a year later. Troy Baker told Eurogamer that Salim “is someone who has a deep passion for games, and has found a way to turn that into a great business endeavor.”

Troy Baker, inspired by actors like Abubakar Salim who are pioneering new opportunities in the gaming industry, has started exploring the idea of creating his own video game. He emphasizes that he wants to take his time and ensure the story he tells is as compelling and well-made as the games he admires.
