Valve has begun shipping the first Steam Controllers, according to reports from customers on social media. It appears that orders in at least 22 of the 32 countries where Valve is officially selling the controller have already been packaged and sent out.
Valve announced the next version of the Steam Controller in November 2025, just after celebrating the tenth anniversary of their first PC gamepad. It officially went on sale May 4th at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, but many fans were able to place orders as early as 9:58 a.m. PT. Despite Valve releasing stock in multiple batches, the controller quickly sold outβwithin a few hoursβcausing it to repeatedly appear as both available and unavailable during the busy launch.
The First Steam Controller Order Has Already Arrived, With Many More on the Way
Just two days after it launched, some customers started receiving the Steam Controller. Reports on social media, as noted by TopMob, showed that as of May 6th, only a limited number of people in California had gotten theirs. Customers in 21 other countries also reported their orders moving past the packaging stage, representing about two-thirds of the 32 countries where the controller is available.
Customers in eleven different countries are now seeing their orders marked as ‘Picked up by carrier,’ which is the third step in the process. Some customers in the US, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Lithuania have gone even further, receiving tracking numbers, meaning their orders are on their way or will be shipped very soon. This suggests Valve is still on schedule to deliver the first batch of orders between May 7th and May 11th, depending on the customerβs location.

When the new gamepad with a trackpad first went on sale, each customer could only buy two. However, some people are already trying to resell their pre-orders at much higher prices. Valve asks customers not to buy from these resellers to discourage this practice, as they plan to have more units available soon.
