In Outbound, you’re free to explore the world however you like. You’ll need to gather resources, make tools, and unlock blueprints to reach new places, but you can generally progress at your own speed. Early in the game, you’ll be encouraged to visit landmarks scattered across the map. But what are these landmarks, and what do you do when you find them? Here’s a complete guide to everything you need to know.
What Are Landmarks in Outbound?
In Outbound, Landmarks are key locations to explore. Each one has a terminal that gives you a blueprint as a reward. These blueprints are like those found at Signal Towers, but usually unlock more advanced machines or important upgrades that help you advance in the game.
You’ll likely want to visit the Fire Lookout and the Treehut early on. The Fire Lookout gives you the Sawmill, which lets you make wooden planks to fix bridges, and the Treehut provides the Building blueprint, allowing you to expand beyond your camper van and start building a base.
On your map, undiscovered landmarks are shown with a question mark inside a hexagon. These usually represent your main goal in Outbound, so it’s best to head towards one whenever you can.
If you’ve been to a place before, you’ll see its icon on the map. However, once you’ve gotten the blueprint from its computer terminal, you usually won’t need to go back.
How Do Landmark Terminals Work in Outbound?
When you reach a landmark, you’ll find a computer terminal there. To use it, you first need to find three items: a Signal Decryptor, a Password Databank, and a Terminal Executable. You’ll find all of these somewhere within the landmark itself. They’re usually not too hard to find if you thoroughly search the area, checking things like shelves and tables.
Early in the game, the Windmill is a bit different – you’ll need to restore power by fixing its gears and solving simple puzzles as you climb to the top. If you get stuck, we have a guide to help you repair it.
Okay, so once I’ve grabbed all three items, I need to head back to that main terminal near the landmark and use it to download the blueprint. Sounds good!
Is There Anything Else to Do at Landmarks in Outbound?
Aside from getting the blueprint, there isn’t much else to find. You might come across useful resources like flowers, water, bottle caps, and food to help you on your journey, but the blueprint is the most important thing to aim for.
Keep an eye out for information signs at historical landmarks. They offer glimpses into the lives of those who once worked or lived there, and while the stories are brief, they’re definitely worth a read.
