The trailers for Outbound showcase impressive camper vans filled with floors, furniture, and gadgets. However, when you start the game, you’ll begin with a very limited space – just enough room for a bed and a small build area. This means you’ll need to focus on practical features rather than decorations at first. Fortunately, you can add an upper deck to your van fairly quickly if you know what to do and where to go. This guide will show you how to get an upper deck in Outbound.
How to Get the Building Blueprint in Outbound
If you want to add a second story to your camper van, you’ll first need the Building Blueprint. You can find this at the Treehut, which is north of the Fire Lookout tower – the first landmark you come across. It’s located in the far northwest of the map’s starting area. Look for the Treehut – it’s the western of the two main landmarks up north (the other being the Windmill, which is easy to spot).
Once you get to the Treehut, you’ll need to locate three items to access the computer. Here’s where to find them:
- Signal Decryptor: Found on the shelves on the opposite side of the room to the PC.
- Password Databank: Exit the room with the PC in and turn right. Head up the ladder to find the databank on a table next to the cases with the fungi growing in them.
- Terminal Executable: Head up the ladder on the other side of the room with the PC in it. The terminal executable is on the table between the two chairs on this platform.
Once you’ve got all three items, interact with the terminal to download the Building blueprint.
How to Build the Upper Deck on Your Camper Van in Outbound
Now that you’ve unlocked the Building blueprint, go back to your camper van and open the back window to get to your workbench. You can now build the ‘Base Building Deck’ upgrade for your vehicle. You’ll need 10 Everwood and 3 Scrap Metal to craft it.
Once the initial opening is created, a hatch will appear on your camper van’s roof, complete with a ladder leading to a new platform area. To fully build out this upper deck, you’ll need to add floors, walls, and a roof – if desired. Remember to gather plenty of wood and other crafting supplies, as you’ll need them for all these construction steps.
As a huge fan of customizing camper vans, I’ve discovered you can really maximize space! After building a first floor, you can actually add another level by constructing a roof on top of it, and then adding a ladder to reach it. It’s a fantastic way to get even more living space!
