Where to Get Iron Ore in Windrose

Iron is an important crafting material in the game Windrose. You can find it on any island with the Foothills area. Since the islands are randomly created each time you play, it’s tough to say exactly where to look. However, if you follow the main story and beat the boss in the Coastal Jungle, you’ll eventually get a quest that sends you to a Foothills island. After that, finding iron is just a matter of exploring the right location.

Windrose Iron Locations

When you land on a Foothills island, keep an eye out for large rock formations. These rocks will contain either Waste Rock or Iron Ore, which can be low or standard quality. You’ll need at least a Copper Pickaxe to mine the Iron Ore.

As a fellow explorer, I’m excited to share that the Foothills islands now have caves packed with Iron Ore! If you chose the ‘Immersive Exploration’ setting when you started your world, you’ll see handy markers on your map pinpointing things like mines, camps, and farms – a real time-saver, though it does make finding things a little too easy. Just remember to bring a bag, because these caves are absolutely loaded with ore – we’re talking hundreds!

You can turn Immersive Exploration on or off in the world selection menu. Before loading your world, click the ‘Edit’ button to find the setting.

Iron Mining Tips

We highly suggest making a Fast Travel Bell and setting it up on the shore of the Foothills island. You’ll soon need materials beyond Iron Ore to craft better items, and having quick access to the Foothills will be really helpful as you progress. While you’re there, build a Bonfire and a place to rest, like a tent or bed. Exploring this area can be dangerous, so it’s best to be prepared!

Once you locate an Iron Ore cave, place a Bonfire right next to the ore. This will illuminate the area and, importantly, keep your Well Rested buff active, letting you mine for as long as you need.

Often, valuable ores inside caves are located on the ceiling, out of reach. To access these, gather Wood or Plant Fibers from the outside world and use them to build Foundations within the cave.

Remember to use your ship as storage! If you fill up your inventory, bring your ship to shore and put your Iron Ore inside. This saves you from constantly running back to base to free up space. Just be careful not to summon your ship too close to enemy ships – even skilled players in Windrose can’t win against much stronger opponents at sea.
