Five games are leaving Xbox Game Pass today, including the popular title Grand Theft Auto 5. Even with these games going, the service has still added more titles than it has lost so far this April.
Microsoft’s subscription service removed 28 games in the first three months of the year, with almost half of those leaving in January. However, the latest batch of removals was much smaller – only Mad Streets and Peppa Pig: World Adventures were taken off the service at the end of March 2026.
GTA 5 Headlines First Wave of April 2026 Game Pass Removals
More games are leaving Xbox Game Pass later today, with five titles being removed around midnight local time on April 16th. The biggest loss is Grand Theft Auto 5, a highly-rated game currently scoring 92 on OpenCritic. Also leaving the service are 2024’s Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, the 2018 soulslike game Ashen, the family-friendly platformer My Little Pony: A Zephyr Heights Mystery from 2024, and the grand strategy game Terra Invicta, which just finished its early access period in January 2026.
Grand Theft Auto V was recently on Xbox Game Pass, leaving in April 2025 after a full year – its longest period on the service yet. Previously, it had been available for between four and six months during its three earlier runs. Not only is GTA 5 one of the top-rated games on Xbox Game Pass, it’s also the most commercially successful, a title it holds across all platforms. It became the best-selling entertainment product of all time in April 2018, exceeding $6 billion in sales, and has since generated an additional $2.6 billion, proving its continued popularity.

Xbox Game Pass has already replaced all the games leaving the service this month with new additions. Eight new titles have been added so far in April 2026, and five more are confirmed to arrive before the month is over. Plus, another wave of games is expected later in April, and it’s likely to include some unexpected additions.

Microsoft usually reveals its Xbox Game Pass plans every two weeks, and based on their recent pattern, we can expect the next update around April 21st. If that happens, it will be the tenth time in a row they’ve announced the lineup on a Tuesday. The only exception was the October 2025 Wave 2 announcement, which came out on a Wednesday.
