15 DC Characters That Could Beat Homelander

Homelander‘s story has come to an end, with Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys series airing its final episode on May 20, 2026. It was a fun, gory, intense ride, and one that is definitely worth taking by anybody who hasn’t done so yet. Basically an evil version of Superman, Homelander is this universe’s strongest “hero” and biggest threat, and he seems unbeatable throughout 99.99% of the show. However, these DC characters would not only defeat Homelander, but some of them would demolish him.

Homelander’s abilities fit well within the DC Universe, so it’s easy to picture him facing off against characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. While he’d likely defeat many, and challenge others, his vulnerabilities – both physical and psychological – would make him susceptible to defeat by certain opponents.

1. Superman

The Original Article

  • Advantages: Super-strong, stronger heat vision, stronger X-ray vision, faster flight and ground speed, more stable mind.
  • Disadvantages: Weak to kryptonite.

Initially, Homelander appears more powerful than Superman. Superman is vulnerable to different types of kryptonite, but Homelander doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses. However, this just makes the competition fair. Homelander can lift around 480 tons—Black Noir compares it to lifting twelve Mag trucks. Superman, on the other hand, has virtually unlimited strength, limited only by what the story requires.

Before the storyline Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman was depicted as incredibly strong, able to move planets effortlessly. Later, his feats became even more immense, like shifting planets from their paths. In All-Star Superman, he demonstrated unbelievable power by lifting 200 quintillion tons with a single hand. While Homelander possesses similar abilities to Superman, such as heat and X-ray vision, he wouldn’t stand a chance against the Man of Steel, even with kryptonite weakening Superman.

2. Wonder Woman

Bringing Homelander To Heel

  • Advantages: Super-strong, combat expert, experience in bringing down stronger superhumans, access to magical and enchanted weapons and items.
  • Disadvantages: Vulnerable to her own weapons, and isn’t bulletproof.

Beyond his other flaws, Homelander is deeply misogynistic and abuses women knowing he’ll face no consequences. He was visibly upset by online reactions to Stormfront in Season 2, Episode 4, and a defeat by a powerful female hero like Wonder Woman would likely be devastating to him.

While she doesn’t have the same flashy powers as Homelander – like heat vision or flight – she’s incredibly strong, capable of lifting massive objects like cruise ships, and has even beaten Superman sometimes. She’s also a very skilled fighter who relies on magical weapons, unlike Homelander who mostly depends on his natural abilities. In a direct fight, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

3. Supergirl

Superman’s Super Cousin

  • Advantages: Super-strong, stronger heat vision, stronger X-ray vision, faster flight and ground speed, can phase through items.
  • Disadvantages: Weak to kryptonite.

Superman’s cousin, Supergirl (also known as Linda or Kara Zor-El), wouldn’t be a good match for Homelander. No matter which version of Supergirl you look at – whether it’s the original, the newer version, or the one from My Adventures with Superman – she’s just as strong and powerful as Clark Kent. She might even be stronger, as she can withstand the effects of kryptonite for a longer period of time.

Because of her incredible stamina, she has the Immortal Power of Strength, one of the Eight Immortal Powers featured in Monkey Prince. She’s naturally tougher and has stronger willpower. After the Crisis event, the Flash taught her to use super speed to vibrate and pass through solid objects. This means even if Homelander managed to grab her, he wouldn’t be able to hold on for long – she’d quickly send him flying.

4. Power Girl

Shutting Homelander Down on Earth-Two

  • Advantages: Super-strong, stronger heat vision, stronger X-ray vision, faster flight and ground speed, genius intellect.
  • Disadvantages: Weak to kryptonite.

Power Girl originated as the Earth-Two version of Supergirl, rooted in the original Golden Age comics. Despite surviving major DC Universe events like Crisis, Flashpoint, and Infinite Frontier – which altered her history and memories – she remains a powerful Kryptonian. While her costume is often discussed, it doesn’t diminish her incredible strength and fighting ability.

Look, Power Girl isn’t just brute strength – she’s genuinely smart. While she makes a living as a programmer, that intelligence translates to battle. Unlike Superman or Supergirl who mostly rely on just hitting hard, Power Girl knows how to fight. She’s a skilled boxer and martial artist, meaning she doesn’t just trade blows with someone like Homelander – she can anticipate his moves, use his own attacks against him, and exploit his weaknesses with precision. Honestly, she could take him down with less effort because of it. It’s not just power, it’s skill.

5. Starfire

Too Spicy for Homelander to Handle

  • Advantages: Super strength, super durability, metal-melting blasts and heat vision, flight.
  • Disadvantages: Superpowers require emotional focus.

Princess Koriand’r, who goes by the name Starfire, might seem like an unexpected challenge to Homelander – unless you know her well. She’s often seen as the sweet and innocent member of the Teen Titans, still learning about Earth and how things are done differently from her home planet, Tamaran. Despite her politeness, she has a breaking point, and pushing her too far would be a mistake for even someone as powerful as Homelander.

While she isn’t as strong as Superman, she can lift an incredible 475,000 tons – almost a thousand times more than Homelander’s maximum strength. He might be faster, but she’s equally, if not more, durable, and could prove it with her powerful energy blasts, which can melt metal whether fired from her hands or eyes. She also has almost limitless stamina, able to absorb energy from sources like the sun. To defeat Homelander, she’d simply need to exhaust him, then deliver a devastating 475,000-ton punch.

6. Lobo

Don’t Mess With The Main Man

  • Advantages: Super-strong, strong healing factor and regenerative abilities, high intellect, and immortal due to a technicality.
  • Disadvantages: Their shared bloodthirst could see Lobo either befriend Homelander or kill him.

Before the superhero Homelander became popular, there was Lobo. But instead of being a dark take on Superman, Lobo was a comical exaggeration of the gritty, violent antiheroes of the early 1990s, like The Punisher and Wolverine. Lobo is the sole survivor of his alien race, the Czarnians, having eliminated all the others. He now travels the galaxy as a bounty hunter, driven by a thirst for violence and destruction.

He’s physically matched Superman at times. Even if he and Homelander were equally powerful, his incredible healing factor means he can recover from almost any injury – even a single drop of blood can bring him back. He didn’t even stay dead when he died; his actions caused so much chaos in Heaven and Hell that he was exiled from both, making him essentially immortal. He’d probably kill Homelander just to get rid of the annoyance, then go find another planet to cause trouble on.

7. Metamorpho

In His Own Element

  • Advantages: Super-strong, practically invulnerable and immortal, can shapeshift into any form, and form any element, including poisonous gases and liquids.
  • Disadvantages: Becomes more vulnerable when he transforms, depending on the element.

Rex Mason started as a hired gun, but he was double-crossed by Simon Stagg while trying to obtain the Orb of Ra. Stagg left Mason for dead near the radioactive meteorite that the Orb was made from. Similar to how radiation changed characters in stories like The Incredible Hulk and Daredevil, the meteorite transformed Mason into Metamorpho, a hero with the power to turn into any element.

Homelander doesn’t have a weakness to any specific material, but he can’t see through zinc, and powerful toxins like Novichok gas might knock him unconscious. However, Metamorpho, with his ability to transform into any element or compound, could test this theory by exposing Homelander to the gas. Of course, Metamorpho’s already impressive invulnerability, strength, and immortality might be enough to defeat Homelander without any special attacks.

8. Green Lantern

The Power Of Imagination

  • Advantages: The Green Lantern ring’s forms have a wide enough range to catch Homelander, and can form anything the user imagines.
  • Disadvantages: The form’s strength relies on the user’s willpower. The users themselves aren’t necessarily super-strong.

Green Lantern’s powers are surprisingly powerful. While Alan Scott and Hal Jordan haven’t always demonstrated incredible creativity with their rings, the Lanterns’ constructs are so effective that, in the past, the only way someone like Homelander could defeat the Daredevil-like ‘Men Without Fear’ was by covering themselves in yellow – because the Lanterns’ projections couldn’t affect that color.

Now that Parallax is gone, Green Lanterns can use their rings to attack anything without limitations. Their power comes from willpower, and Lanterns like Scott and Kyle Rayner have plenty of that. They could either trap Homelander in an energy bubble or simply knock him down with whatever constructs they create.

9. The Flash

A Speedy Victory

  • Advantages: Super-speed beyond Homelander’s ability to keep up, can phase through his grip.
  • Disadvantage: Isn’t super-strong, and so would have to maintain a constant barrage of hits on Homelander.

As a fan, I think a fight between The Flash and Homelander wouldn’t be a straightforward brawl. The Flash, whether it’s Barry, Jay, or Wally, isn’t really about raw strength. If Homelander did manage to grab him, things would look bad. But honestly, the Speed Force would probably prevent that from ever happening – it’s just too fast!

These heroes are incredibly fast, striking with unbelievable speed. They can even vibrate so quickly that they pass through solid objects, letting them escape any capture and relentlessly attack Homelander. By building up momentum with their speed, they could deliver a punch powerful enough to knock out Superman, and certainly Homelander as well.

10. Zatanna

Magic Can Just As Easily Defeat Homelander

  • Advantages: Strong magical powers and vast knowledge of magical spells from elemental powers to dimension warping.
  • Disadvantages: Ordinary human strength and magic can be nullified if her mouth is covered or otherwise kept from speaking.

The DC Universe doesn’t need to rely on its strongest heroes like Superman, or even wild cards like Lobo, to take on Homelander. Surprisingly, they probably wouldn’t even need someone with brute strength. A powerful magic user, such as Zatanna, could easily handle him. She’s skilled in both illusion and actual magic, giving her a vast range of abilities to deal with threats like Homelander.

Using her unique power of Logomancy – casting spells by speaking words backward – she has several ways to defeat Homelander. She could freeze him, shrink him down to an incredibly small size, trap him in an energy field, bounce his attacks back at him, or even directly affect his thoughts. If he managed to touch her, she could use another ability, Antipathy, to transfer any injury he inflicted onto himself. As a last resort, she could banish him to another universe with just a single spoken sentence.
