How to Get Necrolei Cyst & Strong Acid in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, Strong Acid is a vital resource used to create essential items like the Tadpole. You’ll need to craft the Tadpole to continue playing the game, making Strong Acid a key component for progression.

Strong Acid can be made in one of two ways: by gathering and processing Necrolei Cysts, a plant found in a specific area, or by combining Sulfur and Gold, which are both difficult to find early in the game. This guide will show you exactly where to find Necrolei Cysts and how to turn them into Strong Acid. Here’s how it works.

Necrolei Cyst Location in Subnautica 2

Distance from Lifepod 300m
Direction from Lifepod NW
Depth 25m
Harvest Method Survival Multitool

You can find Necrolei Cysts in a special area 300 meters northwest of your Lifepod. To get there, swim directly below the Lifepod and turn the center marker on your compass to the northwest symbol. Then, swim straight ahead for 300 meters and search the surrounding area.

You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see a landscape filled with enormous, flower-like plants. They’re dark green and ridged, with pink, frilly edges around their petals. These giant plants are the key landmark for this area.

When you arrive, search the seafloor for groups of plants that look like green onions. They’ll be anchored by several pink, root-like strands. Each plant has a small flower growing from its bulb—these are called Stilt Orbs, and the flower itself is the Necrolei Cyst. You can collect one Necrolei Cyst from each Stilt Orb by cutting it off with your Survival Multitool.

Stilt Orbs usually appear in groups of two to eight, letting you collect at least that many Necrolei Cysts whenever you gather them. You can’t directly harvest the Stilt Orbs themselves – you only get items from them.

The Scanner Station’s main function is to precisely locate Necrolei Cysts, as well as other valuable resources.

How to Make Strong Acid in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, Strong Acid can be made using the following recipes.

Item Crafting Station Recipe
Strong Acid Processor
  • Necrolei Cyst x2
Strong Acid (Alternate Recipe) Processor
  • Sulfur x1
  • Gold x1

Sulfur and Gold Location

You’ll find both Sulfur and Gold in the lava biome of Subnautica 2, but you need to unlock the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to get there. This area is about 230 meters southeast of your Lifepod.

  • Sulfur deposits are yellow in color, and spawn in large numbers near volcanic activity. Look for small patches of yellow hidden in nooks and crannies in the lava biome, and you’ll find Sulfur.
  • Gold deposits form around the large stone columns and arches in the shape of large honeycombs. These deposits can be mined using a Sonic Resonator, yielding 5 Gold ore pieces every time.
