The Most Unstoppable Protagonists in Resident Evil Series

Summary

  • Billy Coen is one of the strongest main characters, dealing most damage and surviving many attacks.
  • Sherry Birkin’s combat skills see her take down enemies with weapons and physical attacks.
  • Barry Burton is durable and a hard hitter, defeating powerful monsters and standing up against dangerous foes.

In the Resident Evil series, each main character has demonstrated an impressive capacity to eliminate a zombie or two. However, it’s evident that some characters are significantly stronger in terms of overall capabilities. Given the colossal and intimidating nature of many mutants and creatures in this world, having a character who can subdue them swiftly is crucial to prevent further mayhem and distress among innocent civilians.

In addition to their physical prowess, a character’s resilience and determination to persevere against adversity are equally important factors. Speed and agility are crucial traits that make a character more efficient in combat, especially when dealing with swift enemies such as Lickers who can strike rapidly. Considering these aspects, here is the ranking of the main protagonists in the Resident Evil series based on their overall strength and battle reliability.

9. Billy Coen

Rebecca’s Unlikely Companion Pulls His Weight In Resident Evil 0

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 0 (2002)

In my excitement as a fan, let me recount an unforgettable adventure: I, myself, found myself in a harrowing situation aboard a train overrun by zombies and leech monsters. However, amidst the chaos, I stumbled upon none other than Billy Coen, the very crook I’d been pursuing. Despite my ability to fend off the undead horde, it became evident that Billy was not just a formidable fighter but also someone who could withstand an incredible number of attacks – a stark reminder that he was indeed the toughest character in the game.

As a dedicated fan, one strategy I always remember when navigating through Resident Evil 0 is to guide Billy into riskier territories. That’s because he has an incredible resilience, able to withstand a multitude of attacks, especially on lower difficulty settings. Despite not appearing to be a skilled hand-to-hand combatant at first glance, Billy proves to be stronger than your typical civilian.

8. Sherry Birkin

Sherry Has Deadly Combat Skills And Inherits A Special Skill

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 6 (2012)

This entry contains spoilers for Resident Evil 6.

In the Resident Evil 2 game, Sherry was just a young girl. However, when she reappears in the sixth installment, she has grown up and is now a federal agent working under Simmons’ command. Although Jake, who possesses superhuman abilities, assists her, it’s worth noting that Sherry effectively tackles hordes of J’avo with both her weapons and physical attacks. These physical attacks seem to draw some inspiration from her long-standing friend Leon.

Approximately halfway through the tale of Jake and Sherry, it becomes clear that Birkin’s daughter inherently possesses a swift healing trait because of her ancestry. This doesn’t turn her into an unbeatable character, but it certainly proves useful in critical situations. Given that most Resident Evil main characters are powerhouses, though, Sherry still needs to make significant progress if she aspires to match their prowess.

7. Barry Burton

Barry Is As Durable As They Come And A Real Hard-Hitter

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil Revelations 2 (2019)

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire Barry Burton, who may not be as frequently featured in the series compared to other main characters, but he certainly leaves an indelible mark. It’s evident that he’s someone you wouldn’t want to cross paths with the wrong way. This rugged survivor has shown his mettle by vanquishing several formidable monsters across both Resident Evil and Revelations 2. In the latter, he valiantly challenged the mighty Alex Wesker, standing strong even against insurmountable odds.

In Resident Evil 5, specifically Mercenaries United mode, Barry’s underlying strength is most evident. He has the ability to unleash wide-area attacks that can wipe out entire groups of enemies simultaneously, but his aim could use some improvement. Despite this, he can deliver powerful headbutts, yet it’s important to note that Barry also has weaknesses that might hinder his full potential.

6. Claire Redfield

The Legendary Redfield Has Come A Long Way Since Her Debut As A Naive College Student

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil Revelations 2 (2019)

In the game Resident Evil 2, Claire first appeared in search of her brother Chris, who had unexpectedly vanished. Hitching a ride with Leon, they stumbled into a horrifying situation filled with zombies, leaving them seemingly trapped without an escape route. Interestingly, Claire possessed some combat skills prior to the Raccoon City incident due to Chris’s tutelage, enabling her to handle common thugs effectively.

Despite all her preparations, nothing could have fully prepared her for the formidable adversaries like William Birkin or Nosferatu – these are merely a few of the fearsome mutants Claire has successfully defeated during her escapades. Her unwavering resilience and reliance have proven her as a trustworthy ally, leading to her decision to leverage her abilities and courage as a key member in TerraSave.

5. Ada Wong

As A Spy, Ada Needs To Be Prepared For Anything

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 6 (2012)

In a world teeming with strange creatures and undead, Ada, who typically handles espionage tasks, needs to adapt to close-quarter combat. This readiness makes her agile enough to outsmart most adversaries she encounters. The expanded ‘Separate Ways’ addition in the remake of ‘Resident Evil 4’ highlights Ada as a formidable fighter, and while she’s not left behind in ‘Resident Evil 6’, where she fights alongside Leon and others.

In some of the CG films recognized as canon, Ada often leads exciting fight sequences, such as her intense duel with Svetlana in “Damnation“. Although Ada typically prefers stealth and information gathering, she’s capable of getting physical when necessary.

4. Jake Muller

Wesker’s Son Is Powerful Enough To Take Down Even The Biggest Of Mutants

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 6 (2012)

It doesn’t take much time for someone to notice that Jake resembles Wesker, his father, in combat style, even though he may not possess superhuman abilities. This is because both Wesker and Jake favor powerful, concentrated attacks like the Panther Fang and Jaguar Kick, which are signature moves of Wesker’s fighting style.

In the series, Jake stands out as the lone character who opts for close-combat over gunplay, making him an undeniable powerhouse in battles due to his incredible speed and immense physical prowess. Despite being relatively inexperienced, Jake has managed to subdue colossal mutants, even defeating the formidable Ustanak.

3. Jill Valentine

Jill Has More Than Enough Experience To Take Down Anything Thrown Her Way

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 3 (1999) / Resident Evil Revelations (2012)

Few individuals can claim to have endured such harrowing experiences as Jill Valentine. Her numerous battles have molded her into a battle-hardened combatant, evident in her solo game, Resident Evil 3. Jill manages to outlive being pursued by the unyielding bioweapon known as Nemesis, while simultaneously destroying countless zombies and mutants in her path.

In their fifth encounter, following Wesker’s brainwashing, Jill came close to defeating both Chris and Sheva due to her remarkable strength and swiftness. However, it’s important to note that the device on her chest was giving her an extra edge. Despite this aid, it’s evident just how formidable Jill is, as she endured a great deal before ultimately succumbing definitively.

2. Leon S. Kennedy

Leon Was Trained To Be An Agent That The Government Can Rely On To Keep Peace

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil 2 (1998) / Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Previously, Leon began playing “Resident Evil 2” as a seasoned police officer. However, by the end of his initial day on the job, he was elevated to the role of special agent, reporting directly to the president. As Leon explains at the start of “Resident Evil 4”, the grueling training he underwent during this timeframe was extremely rigorous, to say the least. Yet, it transformed him into an exceptionally powerful soldier capable of performing remarkable feats throughout the series.

In various instances, Leon has faced and defeated numerous monstrous adversaries, such as his old partner Krauser, the swift assassin Verdugo, and the shapeshifting Simmons. His fighting abilities are exceptional, evident in a knife fight during Resident Evil 4 or his ability to wipe out entire corridors of zombies in Vendetta without sustaining a single injury. However, there’s one recurring figure that prevents him from claiming the number one spot.

1. Chris Redfield

It’s Hard To Believe Chris Is Even Human With All That He’s Achieved

  • Protagonist: Resident Evil (1996) / Resident Evil 5 (2009)

This write-up divulges significant plot twists from the games Resident Evil 5, as well as some lesser revelations from Resident Evil 6 and Village.

While Leon and Chris have comparable fighting abilities and physical strength, Chris is ranked higher due to his exceptional raw power. It wouldn’t be an understatement to describe Chris’ strength as almost superhuman. Although the boulder-punching scene in 5 is often cited as evidence, it’s just one instance demonstrating the immense destruction that this iconic character can unleash when he becomes enraged.

In the small town, Chris nonchalantly defeats Lycans mid-air and knocks over giants as if it were a routine task. Notably, Chris subdued Albert Wesker in his ultimate Uroboros form, an accomplishment that’s hard to overlook. Although Sheva was present, helping Chris, this achievement remains impressive all the same. In Resident Evil 6, Chris has a brief, intense scuffle with Leon, and while Leon demonstrated greater agility, it was apparent that Chris held the upper hand in terms of raw strength.
