Summary
- People Can Fly suspends projects Gemini and Bifrost, impacting employees.
- Layoffs follow due to lack of publisher support and project analysis.
- Studio currently working on Gears of War project with no release date.
2025’s round of job losses persists as People Can Fly, renowned for their work on games like Bulletstorm, Outriders, and Gears of War, announces project cancellations and staff reductions.
The news comes from the studio, with an announcement over the weekend.
People Can Fly Has Two Projects Grounded

On X, formerly known as Twitter, the official account of People Can Fly shared a post penned by their CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski.
Today, we took a challenging step to halt the progress on projects Gemini and Bifrost. The respective updates regarding these decisions have now been shared publicly, as stated by Wojciechowski.
The declaration makes it official that both Project Gemini and Project Bifrost have been put on hold.
The halt in the Gemini project is due to two main reasons: first, we haven’t received a proposed addendum to our Publishing Agreement that outlines the terms for future milestones on Project Gemini, and second, there has been no communication from the Publisher about their intentions regarding continuing or ending the Gemini project.
As a devoted follower, I’ve had to face the reality that Project Bifrost has been put on hold. Upon careful examination of our financial situation, it became clear that we were struggling to secure the essential resources and funding required to carry on with the project’s development and launch.
The project known as “Gemini” is currently in development for Square Enix, and I suspect this might be the sequel to “Outriders.” On the other hand, “Bifrost” is a virtual reality game. As of now, neither game has an official announcement or release date.
Besides verifying the project terminations, Wojciechowski also mentioned a necessity for the studio to “reduce team sizes.” This year, unfortunately, seems to be overflowing with job cuts, and it appears this trend may continue unabated.
Last December, the studio underwent layoffs, affecting more than 100 employees as part of a company reorganization. Established in 2002, People Can Fly gained prominence with their first major success, Painkiller – a first-person shooter game launched in 2004. After collaborating with Epic Games on Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment, they moved on to develop Outriders for Square Enix, which hit the market in 2021.
Currently, apart from some secretive undertakings by the studio, they are actively developing Gears of War: E-Day in collaboration with The Coalition. This project does not have a fixed release date yet, but it is expected to launch on both Xbox Series X|S and personal computers.
We here at TopMob wish everyone affected all the best, and hope they land on their feet soon.
