- The gruesome game features a cyborg hero fighting hordes of zombies with guns and a high-tech katana.
- The game will be released for PlayStation 5 sometime in 2026.
The new action game, “Romeo is a Dead Man,” hails from the creative minds at Grasshopper Manufacture, and it appears to be a fusion of “No More Heroes” and “Dead Rising.” From the chaotic laser sword battles reminiscent of “No More Heroes” to the vibrant zombie-slaying antics similar to “Lollipop Chainsaw,” Grasshopper Manufacture, led by Goichi “Suda51” Suda, is renowned for producing outlandish and fashionable action games that are as eccentric as they are visually appealing.
In 2021, Grasshopper Manufacture released their latest title, titled No More Heroes 3 . Later, this game was made available on platforms other than the Nintendo Switch. Subsequent years witnessed remastered versions of earlier Grasshopper Manufacture games like Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Lollipop Chainsaw, and Shadows of the Damned. Now, it’s time for Suda51 to unveil his next unique action game, and as usual, it promises to be just as peculiar and imaginative as his followers have grown accustomed to.
During the PlayStation State of Play livestream on June 4th, the game titled “Romeo is a Dead Man” was unveiled. The game’s trailer opens with a hand-drawn, cel-shaded scene depicting a family enjoying dinner together. Suddenly, the doorbell rings, and Romeo answers to find a terrifying zombie standing on his doorstep. The encounter leaves Romeo gravely injured, but fortunately, his grandpa has created a device that keeps him alive as a cyborg. This invention is called a “Deadman,” and it’s activated by being inserted into Romeo’s eye, initiating a shocking transformation in which his head is replaced with a mechanical one.
Romeo is a Dead Man Blends No More Heroes With Dead Rising
After Romeo completes his transformation, the trailer transitions into intense 3D gameplay scenes where the cyborg protagonist slashes through waves of undead foes with a futuristic katana. The excessive action evokes thoughts of Travis Touchdown from “No More Heroes,” yet Romeo also has the ability to eliminate monsters using guns. Notably, at one juncture, Romeo is depicted battling in a shopping mall, reminiscent of Frank West’s initial journey through the zombie-ridden mall in “Dead Rising.
The remainder of the trailer showcases quick peeks at the narrative and potential mini-games, featuring a retro arcade game, 2D anime sequences, and what appears to be a love interest named Juliet reminiscent of both Shakespeare’s tragedy and Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw. Titled “Romeo is a Dead Man,” this upcoming game is slated for release on PlayStation 5 in 2026, promising an entertaining and ultra-violent adventure for enthusiasts of zombie games and Suda51’s previous creations.
