Sony unexpectedly halted the online services for the racing game Assetto Corsa on PlayStation 4, causing worry among fans about the game’s future across various platforms. First introduced on PC in 2014, Assetto Corsa eventually found its place on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016, later also appearing on iOS devices.
Developed by Kunos Simulazioni from Italy, Assetto Corsa is a racing simulation game emphasizing realism. Despite later installments boasting advanced physics engines, Assetto Corsa’s modest system requirements, user-friendly playstyle, and dedicated fanbase have kept it thriving well past the usual lifespan of games like it.
A discussion thread on PSNProfiles about delisted games revealed the termination of online services for the PlayStation 4 version of Assetto Corsa. User HuntingFever pointed out the shutdown, stating “I’ve been told that the servers for Assetto Corsa (PS4) stopped working some time between mid-May and early June this year.” Multiple users on the thread verified HuntingFever’s information with comments like “the servers seem to be offline,” “service is down,” and “preset lobbies no longer exist.” One user mentioned they played the Korean version of Assetto Corsa on June 3, indicating that at least this version was still active earlier in the summer.
Assetto Corsa Has Shutdown on PS4
Upon closer examination, a notification was found on the Japanese PlayStation Store for the game Assetto Corsa, stating, “The online service for this product has concluded. Any content utilizing network functions is no longer accessible, so please exercise caution when making a purchase.” At present, only the Japanese version of the PS Store carries this warning for prospective buyers, although it seems that online services have ceased globally. It’s worth noting that HuntingFever highlighted that such notices have appeared in advance on the JP Store before other regions, possibly due to Japan’s strict consumer laws requiring developers to disclose such information.
If the server for the PlayStation 4 version of “Assetto Corsa” shuts down, it could potentially signal the end of its online services on Xbox and PC too. Although there have been no official statements regarding this matter, players on other platforms are growing anxious since there might not be any prior notice, as suggested by this occurrence. It’s important to mention that “Assetto Corsa” does offer an offline mode that can still be played on the PS4 even with the server shutdown; this should hold true for all platforms. However, trophy hunters seeking a complete playthrough may find it difficult without online services, as some of the trophies are linked to that feature.
It’s become quite frequent lately for servers to go offline, but abruptly halting services without prior notice is rare. Normally, businesses give players several months’ heads up when planning a server shutdown, allowing them ample time to wrap up their commitments before the service ends.
