As a passionate Pokémon TCG gamer, I’m excited about the transparency surrounding the new Ho-Oh EX 3-star card in the upcoming expansion, “Wisdom of Sea and Sky,” for Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. The team has addressed the recent plagiarism allegations, ensuring us gamers that they are committed to maintaining the integrity of their game.
Following its unveiling, the Ho-Oh EX card in the forthcoming Pokemon TCG Pocket collection faced accusations of plagiarism. A Twitter user noticed striking similarities between the official artwork for Ho-Oh and a fan’s illustration from 2021. Many who compared the two images concurred, expressing disappointment at the company for allegedly taking the art without acknowledging its original creator.
The company is currently handling the dispute over the card right before the launch of the Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion. According to a statement on their Twitter account, the problem stemmed from an error during the production process involving the illustration for both Ho-Oh and Lugia 3-star EX cards. They admitted that the team producing the cards used incorrect reference material. Although the Lugia card is not being accused of copying someone else’s work, there is a similarity between the art of Ho-Oh and Lugia that has caused this controversy.
How Pokemon TCG Pocket Is Addressing the Controversy
To solve the problem with the cards, their artwork will temporarily be updated with temporary images when the expansion launches. Meanwhile, the original art will be replaced with new designs. Furthermore, the company intends to scrutinize all other cards within the game to ensure this issue doesn’t occur again elsewhere. It’s unfortunate that Ho-Oh and Lugia EX cards seem overpowering in Pokemon TCG Pocket, but it’s good news that they are addressing the problem and taking steps to prevent recurrences in the future, providing a bit of reassurance for the fans.
Anticipation abounds as the “Wisdom of Sea and Sky” expansion drops on July 30th! In addition to the plethora of new cards that could revolutionize the game, the trading system within Pokemon TCG Pocket is about to undergo a significant transformation. Players will find themselves with numerous packs upon this set’s release, as methods for amassing a substantial number of Hourglasses have been expanded too.
