One Piece Fans Are Not Happy With The Latest Episode

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Currently, it appears that nothing is going amiss for One Piece. From the comics to the animated series, the saga has been thriving. The performance has been almost flawless, but it seems this streak might have come to an end with the unveiling of One Piece Episode 1139, which garnered a mixed response from viewers.

One Piece Episode 1139 Featured A New Opening

The New One Piece Opening Is Full Of Spoilers

The latest One Piece opening is beautifully performed by ELLEGARDEN, and it’s truly captivating. The visuals are impressively done, yet some fans find themselves more critical of the visuals than the song itself.

In simpler terms, the latest theme song for One Piece contains scenes from upcoming chapters in the manga, which haven’t been animated yet. This means watching the opening might reveal plot twists or surprises (spoilers) for fans. However, avoiding the opening entirely may take away the enjoyment of a new tune. A possible workaround could be to watch the opening after reading up to the point where the spoilers begin in the manga, or simply catch up with the manga before watching the new opening.

As an observer, I’d like to point out that a staff member from Toei Animation recently took to X (previously known as Twitter) to issue a heads-up for non-manga readers about potential spoilers hidden within the new opening sequence. It seems some viewers find it puzzling why such spoilers are included, as it doesn’t appear to offer any advantage. Moving forward, Toei could easily steer clear of this practice altogether. Unfortunately, since the new opening is already out, there’s little that can be done now. However, Toei Animation would do well to learn from this and ensure future openings are spoiler-free.

The One Piece Anime Has Been Criticized In The Past

Toei Animation Needs To Fix Certain Things

  • The One Piece anime has several issues
  • It has dated sound effects

The One Piece animated series has consistently made decisions that have had various impacts on the storyline, including title choices that often include spoilers. These spoilers tend to expose significant plot twists, leaving some viewers irritated. However, for those who read the manga, this doesn’t pose a problem. A simple solution to this issue would be for the anime to adopt more ambiguous titles instead.

The sound effects used in the anime haven’t been updated recently, which doesn’t align with current standards. Even an animator criticized the studio for using old-fashioned sound effects, claiming they lower the quality of episodes. Fans have also voiced their concerns and hoped that Toei Animation would address this issue during the break, but it seems like the studio isn’t bothered by it as nothing has changed.

One Piece Anime Will Go On Another Break

The animated series One Piece has consistently delivered exceptional episodes, a feat rarely seen in seasonal anime. After a short hiatus, it resumed airing a few months ago, and each episode has been top-notch quality. Fans are thoroughly enjoying the show, but a pause is expected soon as the studio needs to give its team a well-deserved rest.

After the Egghead storyline concludes, it’s expected that a gap or pause will occur in the anime. Following the completion of Kuma’s flashback, the series is set to delve into the rest of the arc, where fans can anticipate seeing Luffy and the entire Straw Hat crew confronting Saint, Jaygarcia Saturn, along with the Marines. Given their current predicament, the heroes will need to muster all their strength in order to survive.

I don’t care if you’re a king or not. There are things that matter more than power. —Luffy

The conclusion of this battle is likely to significantly shape the course of the story. If the Straw Hats were to lose, their morale could be severely dented and it might take some time for them to regain their confidence. On the other hand, a loss for Saturn would be catastrophic. Not only would it reveal the World Government’s defeat to the world at large, but it would also allow Vegapunk to escape unscathed from the island. Such a defeat of such magnitude would undoubtedly deal a heavy blow to the World Government’s reputation.
