The popular TikTok content creator known as KingBeardX, whose real name is John E. Crawley, tragically passed away on August 18 at the age of 47. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram provide a space where anyone can create content about virtually anything and build a substantial fanbase. This open platform has helped bring attention to numerous unique individuals who might have otherwise been overlooked. KingBeardX was one such individual, using bite-sized videos on these platforms to captivate viewers for extended periods.
Starting around 2020, my social media presence took off like wildfire, largely due to the humorous and exaggerated responses I’d share about everyday events, such as someone enjoying cinnamon rolls. My relatable insights, mixed with a dash of playful humor, along with my distinctive fluffy beard, struck a chord with people, ultimately amassing me over 3.5 million followers across TikTok and Instagram under the handle KingBeardX. On Twitter, you might recognize me as Pimpmunkx, and I used to co-host a podcast with Anthony Caruso, known as Shabisky.
John E. Crawley, Known as KingBeardX, Passes Away
Caruso initiated a GoFundMe appeal to gather funds for Crawley’s hospital expenses, which his friend disclosed started in early August. Initially, the content creator experienced breathing problems, was placed on a ventilator due to low oxygen levels, and eventually ended up in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). On August 18, it was reported by TMZ that KingBeardX sadly passed away at the age of 47, allegedly due to a heart attack.
People’s reactions to KingBeardX’s passing have started to show up on his recent videos on TikTok and Instagram, as well as his memorial page on the Glenfield Funeral Home website. Comments like “fly high unc” and “please tell me it’s just a rumor man” reflect the sentiments of his followers in response to the news. One fan wrote under his obituary, “his videos made many of my bad days much brighter.” The GoFundMe campaign initially set up for Crawley’s hospital bills has now been changed to cover his funeral costs, with a new goal of $9,000. So far, it has raised close to $3,000.
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for well-known content creators such as KingBeardX to pass away suddenly or before their time. In some cases, fans may have a bit of warning to cope emotionally, like when Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade passed in 2022. However, more often than not, unexpected physical or mental health issues arise, leaving loved ones and followers shocked. Despite never or only briefly meeting these content creators in person, their influence can be profound and long-lasting. Even today, annual tributes are still paid to individuals like Etika and Reckful, five and six years after their passing, respectively. Similarly, John E. Crawley’s death might inspire his followers to create similar memorials in the future.
