Since its debut in October 2024, Pokemon TCG Pocket has already unveiled four major booster packs: A1, A2, A3, and A4.

In general, mini-sets that come after major expansions are often given similar codenames, appending a lowercase “a” or “b” at the end as a suffix. For instance, the previous supplemental set for Pokemon TCG Pocket, named Eevee Grove, was designated as A3b. This suggests that it was the second small release during the era of Celestial Guardians (A3).

Pokemon TCG Pocket Could Soon Enter the B-Series Era

Information about the upcoming set for Pokemon TCG Pocket has been shared on Twitter by UniteVids, hinting that A4a and A4b might be the final booster packs of the A-series era. Reportedly, a title containing “B1” is visible on the official webpage promoting the expansion, suggesting that the upcoming main set could mark the end of the A-series era and initiate a new metagame within Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Generally speaking, when a game such as Pokemon TCG Pocket launches a new card series, certain or all of the previous series might get banned in particular player versus player (PvP) modes. The novelty of Series B1 is that it could render many of the top-tier cards from A1 to A4 virtually obsolete in ranked matches. Additionally, it’s plausible that the game creates distinct competitive leagues for each series. However, it’s improbable that DeNA will permit players to mix cards from both series without any restrictions within a single deck.

The theory appears logical given that the upcoming release of Pokemon TCG Pocket is confirmed to feature Mega Evolutions. These creatures boast significantly higher Attack and Health points, making them somewhat dominant compared to standard cards. Thus, it seems reasonable for the developer to restrict competitive modes to the most recent expansion and label it B1, signifying a change in the game.

The only thing that’s certain is that the new Pokemon TCG Pocket booster pack, which will introduce Mega-evolved Pokemon for the first time, will be released in the fall.
