In the realm of anime and manga, it’s undeniably One Piece that reigns supreme in recognition. Created by Eiichiro Oda, this captivating tale holds the distinction of being the best-selling manga, a feat no other series comes anywhere near challenging.
Although One Piece manga is exceptionally impressive, it doesn’t reign supreme across every aspect. Interestingly enough, another series has outperformed its top-grossing film quite significantly in terms of box office success.
One Piece Film Red Was a Huge Success Worldwide
Film Red Is Among The Highest-Grossing Anime Movies Ever
The animated series “One Piece” has produced several movies, yet its most triumphant film so far is the latest one, titled “One Piece: Film Red,” released in 2022. This movie garnered global acclaim almost instantly upon release. Notably, it centers around the character Red Hair Shanks, who fans have eagerly awaited to learn more about. Moreover, the film unexpectedly introduced Uta, Shanks’ daughter, which has significantly captivated and intrigued the fanbase.
1 Piece Film: Red rapidly soared to become one of the most successful anime films and one of the highest-grossing Japanese movies overall. In fact, it held the 6th position among the top-earning films in Japan until quite recently. Yet, that position has now been usurped by a new anime movie, which is shattering all records and potentially aiming for the Number 1 spot in Japan.
Film Red Was Big, But Demon Slayer’s Newest Movie Has Already Surpassed it

Despite being the top-selling manga series globally, One Piece falls short in terms of movie success compared to Demon Slayer. In fact, no other manga or anime series can match its cinematic achievements, a stark contrast particularly evident following the impressive box office performance of its latest film.
Certainly, the latest film from Demon Slayer, titled Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 – Akaza’s Return, has been an incredible success at Japanese Box Offices. The movie was launched on July 12 and continues to perform exceptionally well. Within only 24 days of its release, this new Demon Slayer film has amassed more than 20 billion yen, a figure that took One Piece: Film Red over a year to attain.
The growth of Demon Slayer’s viewer count is expected to escalate, particularly since international screenings are set to start in Asia during August. Countries like the USA will follow suit with their own showings in September. Given these circumstances, there’s a strong possibility that this movie could surpass the current record for the highest-grossing Japanese film, which is another Demon Slayer production, Mugen Train.
