Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake Has Gone Gold

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ I’m super excited to share some awesome news! As a die-hard Dragon Quest fan, I can barely contain my enthusiasm. Square Enix has announced that the highly anticipated Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake has officially gone gold! This means it’s ready to roll out on October 30, 2025, way ahead of schedule!

Remember when they first unveiled this project back in June 2024? Now, we’re only a little over a year away from experiencing an upgraded version of the original games that captivated us back in 1986 and 1987. I can hardly wait to embark on these iconic quests with improved graphics, enhanced gameplay, and all the nostalgia that comes with it! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿš€๐ŸŽ‰

After the success of games like 2018’s “Octopath Traveler” and 2022’s “Live a Live”, Square Enix modernized its classic “Dragon Quest” series using an HD-2D art style in 2024, with the release of “Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake”. This remake was met with rave reviews and commercial success. Now, it seems that Square Enix plans to revive the remaining games from the original “Dragon Quest” trilogy. The upcoming “Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake” is expected to complete the franchise’s collection of HD-2D remakes.

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake Goes Gold, Inches Closer to Launch

The official Dragon Quest series account on Twitter announced that the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 has been completed ahead of schedule by ARTDINK and Square Enix, ensuring its release on PC and consoles will be on time as planned, October 30. A photo was included in the post featuring Yuji Horii, creator of Dragon Quest, and Masaaki Hayasaka, producer of the remake, holding copies of the game. Fans responded enthusiastically to this news, but some expressed disappointment about the use of a game-key card for the Switch 2 port.

The advanced preparation, evidenced by the production of physical copies of the HD-2D Remake for Dragon Quest 1 & 2, weeks prior to its official release, indicates Square Enix’s assurance in hitting their set deadline. This is particularly noteworthy given that delays during the final stages of development are common for many projects. Therefore, it represents an early and significant achievement for fans, as it guarantees that the Erdrick Trilogy from the NES era will be playable on current-generation systems no later than October.

Upon the release of the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, it will be intriguing to examine how it stacks up against the impressive sales performance of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. In the year 2025, developers announced that the latter had surpassed its expected sales figures. Given this, it appears reasonable to presume they aim for the new remake to match or even exceed these results.
