On September 4th, Nintendo has announced that Acclaim Entertainment’s first-person shooter title, previously known as “Forsaken 64”, will debut on their Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ app. This will be the fifth game available on this service, which demands an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack upgrade for access.
First introduced in April 1998 for personal computers, the game titled Forsaken was adapted for Nintendo 64 in May of the same year. In July 2018, NightDive Studios, a division of Atari, launched an updated version of Forsaken on both PC and Xbox One. Currently, NightDive holds the rights to the Nintendo 64 version of the game, and they are recognized for introducing this first-person shooter to the Nintendo Switch Online service. In Forsaken 64, players assume control of a mercenary riding a bike, battling waves of mechanical threats that have overrun a post-apocalyptic Earth. This game offers split-screen multiplayer for up to four players, and it is widely recognized as one of the best FPS titles on the N64.
Forsaken 64 Is Coming to the Switch Online N64 App
On September 4, at around 9:00 PM Eastern time, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can experience a re-release of the classic shooter game, “Forsaken 64,” on the Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ app. It’s important to note that this M-rated N64 app is different from the main N64 app and requires a separate download. To play “Forsaken 64” on Switch consoles, you’ll need an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo has released a teaser trailer for the game, featuring glimpses of both single-player and multiplayer action. With the arrival of “Forsaken 64,” the number of games on the N64 Mature 17+ app will increase to five. The last update for the app was in October 2024, when “Shadow Man” and “Turok 2: Seeds of Evil” were added.
It’s worth noting that the unveiling of “Forsaken 64” might not catch everyone off guard, as it seems to align with a prior leak. This leak suggested that up to five games would be added to the N64 app, among them being “Forsaken 64”, “Glover”, and “Super Smash Bros”. The initial leak mentioned a May 2025 trailer for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which showed blurred box art covers of five N64 games. These images were later deciphered by enthusiasts and shared on social media platforms.

On Nintendo Switch 2, similar to other retro games available on the Nintendo Classics application, players can enjoy additional features such as gameplay rewind and customizable controls while experiencing ‘Forsaken 64’. While Nintendo’s updates for the Nintendo Classics app have been inconsistent, there is still much anticipation for what exciting developments the company may unveil in the future.
