The majority of professional wrestlers featured in games such as WWE 2K25 reportedly earn very little from their involvement, as per the renowned Ric Flair, who himself is not included in the game due to his contract with AEW. Despite being excluded, Flair, known as The Nature Boy, doesn’t seem to be financially upset about it.
In simple terms, the lineup for WWE 2K25 is immense, boasting over 300 wrestling greats from past and present. Its additional content (DLC) has been consistently enriching the game by including iconic wrestlers such as Bull Nakano, New Jack, and The Great Khali. More classics are on their way, with Mark Henry, D’Lo Brown, Victoria, and the New Age Outlaws due to be added on September 17th.
Only a Few Wrestlers Make Big Money From Video Games Each Year
In a recent interview with The Escapist, the 76-year-old, 16-time champion was queried if he had been informed beforehand that he wouldn’t feature in WWE 2K25 upon its release. He expressed no surprise due to his current contract with AEW, and even as a free agent, it seems he wouldn’t have minded being left out. This is because Flair stated that only the cover stars of wrestling games each year receive a significant payout, while everyone else who contributes their likeness receives around 0.3%. The release of three editions of WWE 2K25 in March raises some questions about who earned substantial sums from the game this year.

If Flair’s analysis of the gaming industry is correct, it’s clear that Roman Reigns, famously known for his role in the Street Fighter movie, has been quite profitable this year. This is due to him being the cover star of the WWE 2K25 Standard Edition. Additionally, The Undertaker is likely a strong contender too, as he also lends his name and likeness to the Deadman Edition. However, the priciest version of the game, the Bloodline Edition, showcases a family tree with Reigns at the head, and six other members of the Anoa’i wrestling family beneath him. This edition also includes Sami Zayn and Paul Heyman, who are sometimes part of Reigns’ group, known as the Bloodline.

Flair openly confesses that he doesn’t play video games due to his lack of skill and poor sportsmanship. Instead, he prefers leaving them to his children. However, given his extensive involvement in wrestling games, spanning nearly three decades since 1990, he may have a deeper insight into their production compared to many others. Although he hasn’t graced the cover of any game yet, he has contributed to voiceovers for the Command & Conquer series and has been featured in approximately thirty wrestling games overall.
