Classic IO Interactive Game ‘Freedom Fighters’ Spotted in 007 First Light Trailer

IO Interactive recently shared a detailed walkthrough for 007 First Light, offering over 30 minutes of sneak peeks into the game. This presentation included both a live mission demonstration and a breakdown of gameplay, with commentary provided throughout. The core mechanics of the game were thoroughly explained by the team during this event.

While exploring, I noticed something interesting in the background. In one particular scene, a line of vintage arcade machines could be seen on the opposite side of the room, and among them was none other than Freedom Fighters, a third-person shooter released in 2003 by IO Interactive, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite PlayStation 2 games.

Will Freedom Fighters Be Playable Though?

If characters inspired by Freedom Fighters became playable in a game-within-a-game scenario, I’d likely become overwhelmed with excitement. This shooter left an indelible mark on me over 20 years ago, and its impact can still be felt in games such as Homefront.

Here’s a screencap from the trailer:

The sneak peek of 007 First Light that I had seen earlier at Gamescom was now officially unveiled to the public. Additionally, they announced that 007 First Light will be available starting March 27, 2026.

It turns out that I had written an extensive review summarizing the walkthrough I was given at Gamescom, but surprisingly, IO Interactive revealed the exact same preview to the public today! Although I failed to notice it earlier, the Freedom Fighter’s appearance did not catch my eye.

In the coming year, James Bond’s newest adventure, titled “007 First Light,” is set to release. This news will undoubtedly excite fans of the Hitman series. Not only does this offer something enticing for them, but it also provides a unique opportunity for 007 enthusiasts to explore an intriguing origin story that offers a fresh take on the legendary character.
