This list contains spoilers for the One Piece manga
In the renowned world of “One Piece,” The Five Elders, often referred to as the Gorosei, stand out as some of the most potent and influential figures. Few characters have ever had the privilege to encounter these formidable rulers face-to-face, so any interaction with them is a rare event indeed. Remarkably, even a brief conversation was managed by Shanks during the Reverie, leaving many fans intrigued as to how such a powerful Yonko could engage in casual dialogue with representatives of the World Government. However, thanks to recent manga chapters, the motive behind this unexpected meeting is gradually becoming more transparent.
Recently, Shanks has been a major point of interest in the “One Piece” manga, providing fans with insightful details not just about his past, but also his family background. These recent disclosures have added depth to Shanks’ extensive influence on the world, particularly regarding the Gorosei, who appeared eager to converse with the Red-Hair pirate captain in conversations that took place many chapters and episodes back.
Shanks’ Birthplace Is Revealed
The Legendary Pirate Was Born On A Very Special Island

- Shanks was born not long before the God Valley Incident
- It’s implied Roget took him away amidst all the fighting
- He could have followed in the footsteps of his brother
In the 1158th chapter of the “One Piece” manga, Oda unveils the surprising origin of both Shanks and his sibling, Shamrock. It’s revealed that God Valley serves as their birthplace. Though glimpses of the God Valley incident, where Roger and Garp collaborated to defeat the Rocks Pirates, have been scattered throughout the story, it seems the impending chapters will delve deeper into this battle. While the participants in the conflict were generally known, it appears nobody predicted Shanks to be born on that very island around the same time.
Since their father isn’t here, it seems we’ll need to lend a hand with that instead.
Emphasize that Shanks was born on the island 39 years ago, which implies he was just an infant during the violent battle between Rocks and his adversaries, marking the beginning of the conflict. Consequently, numerous fans speculate that this could be the reason why Shanks joined Roger’s crew initially, as it appears plausible that the eventual Pirate King aimed to safeguard the boy who he discovered hidden inside a treasure chest.
It appears that Oda hints at the possibility that Shamrock and Shanks were destined for similar roles within the World Government, until Shanks was mentored by a renowned pirate. This could explain why the Gorosei showed unexpected openness towards Shanks, as his path of piracy might not have been his initial choice. However, there’s another factor that allowed Shanks to establish such a meeting with the Gorosei.
Shanks’ Father Is Highly Influential
Garland Is Now A Member Of The Five Elders After Saturn Was Killed
- His prestigious position reflects on his son
- Harming Shanks wouldn’t be a wise idea by the Gorosei
- Shanks’ status as a member of the Garling family earns him a spot in Mary Geoise
A short while back, spectators became acquainted with a perilous band of agents named the Holy Knights. Interestingly, the individual who commanded this group for the majority of his life turned out to be Shanks’ very own father – Figarland Garling. Despite fathering one of the most powerful pirates on a global scale, Garling has stayed a devoted servant to Imu and the World Government, even rising to become one of the Five Elders after Saturn’s demise due to his faults at Egghead.
When you consider Garling’s prominent position in society, it’s clear that hurting his son might strain his relationship with other Elders. Conversely, given the Garling family’s significant influence among the World Nobles, Shanks, being a pirate though he may be, would still hold enough status to potentially gain entry into Mary Geois based on his standing alone.
It’s worth noting that neither the Marines nor the World Government refuse interaction due to piracy status; they demonstrated this when they seized control over the Warlords of the Sea. Shanks, though not a Warlord himself, carries significant weight because his father is a prominent figure in the World Government, thus he deserves a certain level of respect from his seniors.
Shamrock Has Earned The Government’s Trust
Maybe The Gorosei Sees The Same Potential In His Brother
In an even more unexpected turn during the Elbaph arc, Oda unveiled Shanks’ older brother, known as Shamrock. Remarkably, he’s currently serving as a Holy Knight, a position of immense power directly under Imu. Their presence is often shrouded in mystery, and many Marines are unaware of their existence due to their tendency to operate covertly when confronting significant threats.
I’m tired of dealing with so many unproductive individuals. I had wished our resolution could have been more peaceful.”
By using the words “unproductive individuals” instead of “useless people,” and “our resolution” instead of “this,” the statement becomes less harsh while maintaining its original meaning. Additionally, changing “settled” to “resolved” and “cleanly” to “peacefully” helps make it sound more natural in conversational English.
In Chapter 1158, we learn that both Shamrock and Shanks hail from God Valley. However, unlike his brother, Shamrock chose to walk the same path as their father, aiming to be someone trusted by the World Government. Loyal to Imu and the Five Elders, Shamrock has demonstrated unwavering allegiance. It’s suggested that perhaps the Gorosei believed they could sway Shanks too, encouraging him to align with his family in serving Imu’s sinister purposes, despite Shanks being perceived as more rebellious.
From an outside perspective, the details of the dialogue between Shanks and the Gorosei remain undisclosed, leaving fans in anticipation as to whether the Elders attempted to win Shanks over during their conversation. Nevertheless, it’s clear that Shanks’ family ties and influential reputation provided him with a unique opportunity to converse with the Gorosei directly – an encounter rarely granted to pirates throughout their lifetimes.
