This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
In the realm of “One Piece”, the Solar Deity Nika holds significant importance across numerous historical epochs, particularly during times when global tyranny and suffering intensify. It is widely believed among fans that Luffy embodies the Sun God Nika in the present era; however, it’s important to note that he isn’t the only one who ever lived. To date, creator Oda has unveiled four incarnations of the Sun God Nika within the story, with most appearing during different eras.
In the world of One Piece, it’s common knowledge that Luffy is known as the Sun God Nika of this era. Additionally, there was Joy Boy, who lived approximately 800 years ago and was the previous Nika. Prior to Joy Boy, it’s believed that the first Nika lived about 3000 years ago in the One Piece world. Finally, within the current timeline of One Piece, we have Bonneyny, who can transform into Nika thanks to her Devil Fruit, the Toshi Toshi no Mi.

Over various periods, Oda has unveiled four distinct interpretations of the Nika concept to fans, and without a doubt, Luffy is the most crucial one among them. Luffy assumed the role of the Sun God Nika after activating his Devil Fruit, specifically the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This peculiar Devil Fruit gives him a rubbery physique, and once activated, it transforms him into the Champion of Freedom. For the first time, Luffy employed the power of Nika during the fight against Kaido, which resulted in Kaido’s permanent defeat. Since then, he has consistently tapped into the power of Nika.

In the Void Century, Joy Boy was recognized as the second incarnation of Nika for the world. Consuming the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, he transformed into the first pirate. Facing off against Imu, despite losing in the Great War eventually, Joy Boy perished at its conclusion.
In times long past, prior to Joy Boy, there lived a different character known as Nika, this time being the original Nika of the globe. Whether this was indeed the Sun God Nika or someone who possessed a Devil Fruit is uncertain. However, it’s highly likely that the first Nika originated from Elbaf approximately 3000 years ago. Following the demise of the world, this original Nika also ceased to exist.

In the “Egghead” storyline of One Piece, Oda unveiled the complete powers of Bonney’s Devil Fruit to viewers, as she demonstrated the ability to metamorphose into a pirate. Subsequently, upon witnessing Luffy adopt the Nika form, Bonney attempted to mimic him and inadvertently transformed into Nika herself. While she can’t sustain the Nika form for extended periods, it’s clear that she possesses this power as well, making her one of the world’s four Nika users.

The Final War Is Upon The World As Nika Arrives
Although the earlier Nika characters played significant roles, currently, it’s Luffy who is advancing the narrative as the third Nika. With Joy Boy already fallen, it’s high time for Luffy to take charge and confront Imu and the World Government. As hinted in the Elbaf arc by Oda, this sets the stage for the upcoming war, and chaos seems imminent. Luffy and his comrades will strive for global liberation against Imu and the World Government. Unlike Joy Boy who could not achieve victory in the past, Luffy is destined to triumph in this fight.
