This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
The Elbaf arc of *One Piece* is slowly unveiling key details that fans have anticipated for years. It’s expected that Oda, the series creator, is heavily featuring influential figures from the *One Piece* world, including Rocks D. Xebec, Roger, Garp, and others like Imu, Garling, and the Holy Knights.
Despite appearing in the story decades ago, these characters continue to have an impact. Rocks D. Xebec, the central figure in the current flashback, lives on through Blackbeard, one of the most powerful pirates in the world. Fans already know how strong Blackbeard is, and as Rocks’s son, he’s determined to achieve his father’s goals. Blackbeard possesses the power to do so, largely thanks to his ability to wield two Devil Fruit powers. It appears that the author, Oda, has finally explained how Blackbeard was able to consume two Devil Fruits in *One Piece*.
Blackbeard Is From The Davy Clan

- They Possess A Special Ability
During the Elbaf flashback in One Piece, the author, Oda, revealed a key connection between Rocks and Blackbeard. It was confirmed that Blackbeard is actually Rocks’s son, establishing a family relationship between the two characters.
With this power, I’m finally invincible! — Blackbeard
More significantly, it was revealed that both characters originate from the Davy Clan. This clan is a powerful lineage dating back to the Void Century, founded by the pirate Davy D. Jones. The World Government attempted to eliminate this bloodline, but it persists. Rocks D. Xebec was one member, and Blackbeard is another who carries this lineage into the present day.
Many fans were surprised to learn Blackbeard is connected to the Davy Clan, but there’s an even bigger reveal. Chapter 1160 of *One Piece* strongly suggests Blackbeard is also a Buccaneer. Although Eiichiro Oda hasn’t confirmed this directly, the evidence is mounting. Blackbeard’s unusual physique and immense strength, combined with his incredible durability, closely match the characteristics of a Buccaneer. This connection explains how he was able to consume multiple Devil Fruits. During the Egghead Arc, Vegapunk revealed the Buccaneers possess a unique and astonishing ability, seemingly linked to the manipulation of souls.
Your people have committed grave sins against the world. — Saturn to Kuma
Blackbeard’s Special Ability Is Key to Eating More Than One Devil Fruit
Blackbeard Might Eat More Devil Fruits
The recent Egghead and Elbaf arcs of the story have strongly suggested how Blackbeard was able to eat two Devil Fruits – something normally impossible. It appears Blackbeard’s unique physiology, stemming from his ‘Buccaneer’ lineage, is the key. This lineage might grant the ability to transfer their souls after death, allowing them to withstand the effects of consuming multiple Devil Fruits.
We’ve already seen this happen with Kuma. Even after losing his will and effectively being ‘dead,’ he was still able to act to protect Bonney, which shouldn’t have been possible. This likely occurred because Kuma’s consciousness transferred into his Pacifista body. It’s probable that Emeth exists in a similar way – as a giant robot powered by his consciousness. This seems to be a unique ability of the Buccaneers, and it might even be the origin of Devil Fruits.
Beyond his usual abilities, Blackbeard likely inherited the spirits of his parents through his lineage as a pirate. This explains why he’s able to consume and control the power of multiple Devil Fruits.
