The popular family MMORPG Wizard101, created by KingsIsle Entertainment, is coming to PS5 and other consoles on October 9th. For almost two decades, players have loved the game’s mix of learning magic, turn-based battles, and exploring a huge world, and now Wizard101 is available on even more platforms.
I’ve always thought of Wizard101 as being a bit like World of Warcraft, but with a Harry Potter vibe. Basically, you play as a student wizard or witch at Ravenwood School, learning the ropes of magic. The gameplay is really cool – you build a deck of magical cards to summon creatures and use elemental powers to beat enemies. You travel through all these amazing, unique worlds called the Spiral. It’s been a big hit on PC for ages, and now it’s awesome that players on Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox can finally join the battle against evil in this magical land!
When is Wizard101 Coming to Consoles?
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5: October 9, 2025
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S: October 9, 2025
- Nintendo Switch: TBA
A new trailer from KingsIsle has officially announced that Wizard101 will be released on PlayStation and Xbox on October 9. However, the release date for the Nintendo Switch version is still to be determined. Wizard101 will be a free-to-play game on PlayStation and Xbox, but the Switch version will cost $19.99 and will include the complete first story arc. Both the PlayStation and Xbox versions will feature the expanded free-to-play area, now including the Oasis zone of Krokotopia, though a subscription will still be required to access the full game, starting with the first story arc. Fans had a chance to test out a Wizard101 Game Preview on Xbox earlier in 2025, which gave them access to the free-to-play portion. No matter which platform you choose, you’ll need a monthly or yearly subscription to experience everything Wizard101 has to offer.
Even though some players have criticized the game for not receiving large updates lately – especially when looking at other online role-playing games – Wizard101 still has a dedicated community. KingsIsle hopes bringing the game to consoles will spark renewed interest in this well-loved title. Players continue to enjoy the game’s vibrant world, magical characters, and unique gameplay, and the fact that it’s been running for 17 years shows just how popular this often-overlooked online game truly is.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people wish there was a way to play magical games like Hogwarts Legacy with friends, so I was really excited to see that Wizard101 is finally coming to consoles! I’m a little curious to see if console players will be into the subscription you need to get the full Wizard101 experience, but the fact that it starts as free-to-play could be exactly what KingsIsle needs to get a whole new group of fans hooked.
