GameStop is publicly criticizing Xbox Game Pass following Microsoft’s recent price increase. Subscribers were surprised when Microsoft announced a substantial price hike at the start of October. The cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is now $29.99 per month, a significant jump from the previous $19.99, and many players have expressed their dissatisfaction with this change.
Wow, things got crazy! So many people tried to cancel their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions at once that the site actually crashed. And social media is *blowing up* with people upset about the price increase. Xbox is trying to explain it by saying they’re adding Ubisoft+ games and Fortnite Crew benefits, but honestly, a lot of us subscribers aren’t buying it and are making our feelings known. It’s been a rough day for Game Pass, that’s for sure.
GameStop Mocks the Game Pass Price Increase
Even GameStop has spoken out, sharing posts on social media that criticize the price hike. GameStop playfully responded to the Xbox Game Pass increase with memes, and they’ve also confirmed that their $19.99 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cards will not be getting more expensive. Although a price increase for Game Pass Ultimate cards at GameStop is likely to happen eventually, customers can still buy them now at GameStop, both online and in stores.
I’m really curious to see how this Xbox Game Pass price hike affects things. I mean, it’s totally possible some of us will cancel if we’re tired of paying more, but honestly, I think most people will stick around. They’ve been consistently dropping huge games on day one, and that’s a big draw. Looking ahead, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are getting some seriously awesome titles like Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and a bunch more. It feels like the timing of this price increase wasn’t accidental, they’re probably counting on these releases to keep us happy and subscribed. It’s a strategic move, I think.
It’s natural to question whether the recent price hike for Game Pass will affect its main rival, PS Plus. PlayStation Plus has seen price increases before, and if Microsoft’s changes work out well, Sony will likely consider doing the same. However, Sony could also use the Game Pass increase as a chance to highlight the value of PS Plus and draw in more subscribers. Only time will tell what happens, but for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers who aren’t ready to pay $29.99 a month, a trip to GameStop might be worthwhile soon.
