So, I just got an email from Amazon – they’re getting rid of the Prime Gaming brand. But honestly, don’t freak out too much! It’s not as big a deal as it sounds for those of us who are Amazon Prime subscribers. They’re just changing the name, it seems, and we’ll still get the gaming perks we’re used to. It’s a relief, honestly!
Because Amazon owns the livestreaming platform Twitch, Amazon Prime members have traditionally received perks for the service. People who already enjoy benefits like free Amazon shipping with their Prime membership can also get one free monthly subscription to a Twitch channel. This provides the streamer with the standard benefits, but doesn’t cost the subscriber any extra money. Additionally, Amazon Prime Gaming offers members free games each month.
Amazon Reveals Change to Prime Gaming
In an update for its subscribers, Amazon announced that the Prime Gaming brand will be discontinued, but your benefits won’t change. Amazon states that Prime members will continue to receive all the perks they’re used to, but these will now be part of Amazon Luna, the company’s cloud gaming platform. Amazon assures subscribers they’ll still get one free Twitch subscription monthly, along with enhanced emotes, chat colors, and longer broadcast storage – just as they did with Amazon Prime Gaming – without any major changes to how you claim them. Plus, subscribers will continue to receive free games each month.

This change might seem familiar to those who have been Amazon Prime subscribers for a while and have been getting the benefits that come with Twitch. Back in 2020, the service went through a similar update, changing from what was then called Twitch Prime to Amazon Prime Gaming. At that time, besides the name change, the biggest update was that Amazon Prime members could use their perks on Twitch without a separate subscription to the livestreaming platform, simply by using their Amazon accounts. Just like then, most existing users probably won’t have any major issues with this new change.

Over time, Amazon has altered its Prime membership quite a bit, both adding and taking away perks for its members. Removing the benefits for Twitch users would probably upset many streamers, so Amazon likely won’t change this feature soon. This is especially true because competing platforms like Kick are actively trying to attract streamers to their service instead of Amazon’s.
