Ubisoft and Tencent have announced the creation of a new studio called Vantage Studios. The studio will be led by Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, and represents a significant investment – a billion-dollar project – that Ubisoft calls “the next phase in its evolution.” Vantage Studios will primarily work on developing games within some of Ubisoft’s most popular and well-known franchises.
The partnership between Tencent and Ubisoft started several years ago when Tencent bought a 49.9% share in Guillemot Brothers Limited, the company owned by the founding Guillemot family of Ubisoft. This investment cost €300 million (more than $350 million) and also gave Tencent 5% of the voting rights within Ubisoft. This significant deal made Tencent, already an investor in several other game developers, Ubisoft’s biggest shareholder, with the potential to increase its ownership up to 17%. This collaboration represents one of Tencent’s largest investments in the gaming industry, and the relationship is strengthening further with the announcement of a new project.
Venture Studios Will Oversee Some of Ubisoft’s Largest Franchises
Ubisoft and Tencent have partnered to create Vantage Studios, a new company dedicated to growing the Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry game series. According to a statement on Ubisoft’s website, Vantage Studios will bring together the development teams currently working on these three franchises, who are located at Ubisoft studios in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. Tencent is investing €1.2 billion ($1.25 billion) in Venture Studios and will have a 25% ownership stake, while Ubisoft will retain the remaining share.

Early in 2025, a new project from the two companies became big news. Initially, there was speculation that Tencent might acquire Ubisoft, but discussions soon focused on a smaller collaboration involving select game titles. In March 2025, the new Ubisoft/Tencent partnership was officially announced, with plans to develop games within the Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry franchises-though it didn’t have a name at the time. The companies highlighted that the collaboration aimed to enhance single-player storytelling, broaden multiplayer content with more releases, and add more social features to the games.

The launch of Venture Studios is generating a lot of buzz. This partnership between Ubisoft and Tencent will give developers more freedom to create and innovate on their projects, incorporating what players want to see. Given the scale of this new venture, fans of Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed are eager to learn how Venture Studios will evolve these popular franchises.
