Just two weeks before the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, images of Feraligatr’s Mega Evolution form were shared online. Fans reacted to the leak by saying that the revealed Mega Feraligatr design in Pokemon Legends: Z-A matched earlier descriptions of how it might look and what type it would be.
I remember when Feraligatr first showed up in Pokemon Gold and Silver – it was such a beast! It’s the final evolution of Totodile and Croconaw, and it’s a Water-type Pokemon. What I always liked about it is how well-rounded it is, though it’s definitely stronger when it comes to physical attack and defense. Now, in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s awesome that I can choose Feraligatr as my starter alongside Meganium and Emboar as we explore Lumiose City. I’ve been following the leaks for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and apparently there are going to be at least 26 new Mega Evolutions, and thankfully, Mega Feraligatr is one of them!
Mega Feraligatr Leaked Ahead of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Launch
As copies of Pokemon Legends: Z-A have started appearing before its October 16 release, more details about the game are being shared online. A Twitter user named Centro posted an image of Mega Feraligatr as part of the ongoing leaks for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The photo of Mega Feraligator was taken from the back, but it clearly shows a much larger jaw extending above its head. This red jaw appears to act like a hood, covering its face, and it’s paired with a large lower jaw that protects Feraligatr’s neck. Mega Feraligatr is described as a Water and Dragon-type Pokemon, gaining the Dragon type when it Mega Evolves. However, its moves and stats haven’t been revealed yet.

Following a post by Centro, Pokemon fans pointed out that Mega Feraligatr’s design aligns with an earlier leak detailing the new Mega Evolution forms in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Its Water and Dragon typing is similar to that of Pokemon like Kingdra and Palkia. While gaining the Dragon type eliminates its weakness to Electric attacks, Mega Feraligatr becomes vulnerable to Fairy and Dragon-type Pokemon. Considering the prevalence of Fairy-type Pokemon such as Florges and Sylveon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A and the Kalos region as a whole, Mega Feraligatr might face challenges in some battles.

I don’t think Feraligatr will be totally helpless against Fairy-types, honestly. It used to be able to learn moves like Metal Claw in older Pokemon games, which could help it fight back. It’s going to be really interesting to see how Mega Feraligatr’s type and design actually play out once Pokemon Legends: Z-A players start building their teams and figuring out the best strategies. We’ll have to wait and see what works!
