This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen has rapidly become a hugely popular manga, surpassing the sales of many other titles, even One Piece for a significant period. However, despite its massive success, Jujutsu Kaisen finished its run last year, which disappointed many fans.
It’s been a year since the original, and Gege has begun a new manga series called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Fans are really excited to see what happens next, as Gege has already established a major challenge for the new characters. These new protagonists, Yuka and Tsurugi, could potentially be even stronger than the previous lead, Yuji, because they’re facing a threat that’s even greater than Sukuna, all while having fewer resources and support.
Yuka and Tsurugi Have a Lot of Potential
They Are The Grandchildren of Maki and Yuta

I’m so excited about Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo! It started just a few weeks ago, and we’ve already met the main characters, which is awesome. They’re siblings, and get this – they’re the grandchildren of JJK legends Maki Zenin and Yuta Okotsu! I remember seeing them first in Gege’s one-shot last year, but it’s amazing to finally see their story really unfold in this new series.
Yuka and Tsurugi are both fairly powerful, and their strength is comparable. Yuka has demonstrated her capabilities with a large amount of cursed energy, much like Yuta Okkotsu, while Tsurugi relies on his skillful swordsmanship, similar to how his grandmother fought with limited cursed energy. They each have their strengths, but it’s clear that neither of them is prepared for the challenges ahead.

However, these two characters show significant promise and are developing rapidly, potentially surpassing Yuji in power. Their progress is noticeably quicker than that of the previous generation, likely because Gege has a limited timeframe of only six months to conclude the series.
Yuji Is A Legend, But The Next Generation Has to Surpass Him

- Yuka and Tsurugi Are Facing an Even Bigger Threat Than Sukuna
- Yuji Could Become a Mentor Figure If He Ever Returns to the Story
Yuji was a consistently popular character with fans. While he wasn’t particularly powerful for most of Jujutsu Kaisen, he improved dramatically during the final fight against Sukuna. Yuji played a crucial role in securing the victory, finally realizing his incredible potential and defeating the King of Curses.
The current sorcerers have great potential, but future generations may exceed it when confronting an even greater danger: the Simurian King. The Simurian King is a threat comparable to Sukuna himself, and to make matters worse, he commands an army of 50,000 aliens.

Yuji could definitely come back to the story, perhaps as a guide to help the newer characters reach their full potential, or even join them in battle. Either way, defeating a powerful enemy like the Simurian King will require a hero on Yuji’s level, and it looks like that’s the direction the author, Gege Akutami, is taking the series.
I’ve been following Jujutsu Kaisen, and while the original manga finished up in late 2024, you can still read it online without paying. It’s available on Manga Plus, which is where it was originally released each week. And for those excited about the continuation, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is also on Manga Plus, with new chapters coming out weekly. I saw that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 5 is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2025.
