The popular manga and anime series *One Piece* is now in its final arc, promising a dramatic and exciting conclusion. Creator Eiichiro Oda has been planning this part of the story for a long time, and fans are anticipating big developments.

Naturally, a pirate-focused storyline will showcase the most powerful pirates in this arc. Eiichiro Oda has already hinted at which crews will play key roles and ultimately become the strongest in the current era of pirates.

The Roger Pirates Were The Strongest Crew Before The Great Pirate Era

Before the famous Age of Pirates, two groups were particularly dominant: the Rocks Pirates and the Roger Pirates. The Rocks Pirates disbanded around 38 years ago after a battle at God Valley, and its former members went on to become incredibly powerful. Whitebeard rose to become one of the strongest pirates of his time, while Big Mom and Kaido also steadily increased their strength. Though all these pirates became legendary, Roger, captain of the Roger Pirates, ultimately surpassed them all.

Roger and Rocks were major rivals, with Rocks considered Roger’s greatest enemy according to Sengoku. While Roger also clashed with Whitebeard, that rivalry wasn’t as intense. Roger’s crew became legendary, achieving what no one else had – they completely conquered the Grand Line, reached the final island, and claimed the One Piece treasure.

Roger Believed Someone Would Come And Surpass Them

The Roger Pirates famously reached the final island in *One Piece*, but they disbanded because their time hadn’t come yet. Roger realized they weren’t the ones destined to change the world, which is why he surrendered to the Navy. His execution marked the beginning of the Great Pirate Era, inspiring a wave of powerful pirates to search for his hidden treasure. During this era, the most powerful pirates – known as the Yonko – emerged, with Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, and Shanks being the strongest of them all.

Unlike most pirate groups that rely on a single powerful fighter, the Straw Hat Pirates are unique because they boast three: Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro. It’s almost certain that all three of these characters also possess the rare ability known as Conqueror’s Haki.

The story already shows clear paths for the Straw Hat Pirates to exceed the accomplishments of legendary figures. Luffy is destined to become even greater than Roger, and Zoro and Sanji are on track to surpass Rayleigh and Gaban. The rest of the Straw Hat crew will also become incredibly powerful, exceeding the strength of any other crew currently sailing the seas.
