The Shiny Charm is the best item you can get in Pokémon games for increasing your chances of finding rare, Shiny Pokémon, and it’s returning in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus greatly improved Shiny Pokémon hunting with clear audio and visual cues whenever a Shiny appeared, and this feature is back in the new Legends: Z-A game. However, the most crucial item for finding Shiny Pokémon remains the Shiny Charm.
Getting the Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes time, but we’ve broken down everything you need to do to earn it.
How to Get The Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can get the Shiny Charm by leveling up in Mable’s Research. This means you’ll need to finish a lot of requests to reach Level 50.
At the beginning of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’ll meet Mable, who needs your help figuring out why so many wild Pokémon are appearing in Lumiose City. You’ll receive Research Requests to complete – a gameplay feature similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where you assisted the Professor in building the very first Pokédex.
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Research Requests involve different tasks, like filling out your Pokédex, catching certain types of Pokémon, or winning battles. Completing these requests, and advancing the main story, will unlock even more challenges.
Okay, so I’ve been grinding Mable’s Research, and most of the rewards are Technical Machines – basically, ways to teach my Pokémon new moves. But it’s not just moves! As you rank up, you get a ton of Experience Candies to quickly level up my team. And the biggest reward? You can actually earn a Master Ball, which is awesome for catching those super rare Pokémon!
The Shiny Charm is the best reward you can get, as it significantly increases your chances of finding Shiny Pokémon, even though you can find them throughout the game.
Are There Shiny-Locked Pokémon in Legends: Z-A?
As a Pokémon fan, I’ve learned that some of the Pokémon in Legends: Z-A are unfortunately ‘Shiny-Locked’. That means you just can’t find their Shiny versions through normal gameplay, even if you have the Shiny Charm – it’s a real bummer!
Like in previous games, you won’t be able to find shiny versions of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon such as Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This also applies to any Pokémon given to you as part of the game’s story.
The Pokémon you pick at the beginning of Legends: Z-A is guaranteed to not be shiny, but you’ll be able to find shiny versions of that Pokémon later on in the game if you continue to play.
