One Piece: How Blackbeard Can Surpass Xebec

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Marshall D. Teach, more famously known as Blackbeard, is one of the most powerful pirates in the world of *One Piece*, holding the title of one of the Four Emperors. He quickly became a top-ranked pirate thanks to his incredibly careful and well-thought-out plans, always considering the consequences before taking action.

For a long time, people have wondered what Blackbeard was really after, but Oda might have just given a major clue revealing his true goal.

Blackbeard Wants To Claim The World

Blackbeard Has Set His Sight On Imu’s Throne

  • Blackbeard has always aimed for the top
  • He has grown extremely strong in just a few years

In One Piece chapter 1162, Xebec told Whitebeard they were battling “the world.” Whitebeard was confused about their enemy, and understandably wanted to know more. Of the three of them, only Xebec had met Imu before, giving him some understanding of the situation.

When Xebec referred to Imu as “the world,” it suggests Blackbeard is after the same goal. Given that Blackbeard is Xebec’s son, it’s likely he shares his father’s ambition. His traumatic childhood – being enslaved by the Holy Knights – probably intensified his desire for power, driving him to overthrow the existing world order and conquer everything.

Blackbeard Is More Ruthless Than His Father

Unlike Blackbeard, Xebec was a loyal man. He genuinely cared for those he considered friends, like Harald, and even defended him from threats like Kaido. Xebec’s devotion extended to his family, whom he was prepared to fight for, even against a powerful organization like the World Government.

Unlike his father, Blackbeard doesn’t value his crewmates and will readily abandon them to achieve his goals – he even left allies behind to defeat Boa Hancock. He views people as expendable tools, and this ruthless ambition suggests he’s likely to surpass Xebec in terms of overall achievement someday.

Blackbeard is poised to surpass his father in power. He already possesses two incredibly strong Devil Fruits: the Gura Gura no Mi and the Yami Yami no Mi. The Gura Gura no Mi lets him generate powerful earthquakes, capable of destroying islands in moments. He can even create massive tsunamis with it, enough to obliterate entire naval fleets.

While the Gura Gura no Mi is incredibly destructive, the Yami Yami no Mi is actually more threatening. This Devil Fruit lets Blackbeard manipulate darkness, which has an immense gravitational pull, making escape nearly impossible for anyone caught within it. What truly makes the Yami Yami no Mi so dangerous, though, is its ability to cancel out the powers of other Devil Fruits, putting any Devil Fruit user at a severe disadvantage when fighting Blackbeard.

To defeat Blackbeard, using Haki is the most effective approach, though it won’t be easy since he’s also capable of using it. He’s already demonstrated strong Armament Haki, successfully blocking an attack from a Seraphim. While it’s currently unknown if he possesses Conqueror’s Haki, it’s very likely he does. Considering all of his powers, it’s clear Blackbeard has the potential to become even stronger than his father.
