This article contains spoilers for One Piece‘s Elbaf Arc.
The popular manga and anime series One Piece is now in the Elbaf arc, and as the story enters its Final Saga, things are moving towards the conclusion very quickly. A large-scale war, foreshadowed by the author years ago, is on the horizon, with Luffy, the main character, taking center stage.
Luffy is known for overcoming any obstacle in his way, but fans anticipate even tougher challenges ahead, and the possibility of him facing defeat. The story seems to be building towards this, promising increasingly intense and thrilling events.
Luffy’s Vivre Card Is A Plot Device
- Ace’s Vivre Card Foreshadowed His Fate
- Luffy Will Be Captured Soon
Some fans might be surprised by the idea of Luffy being captured, but the story actually prepared for this possibility during the Dressrosa arc. At that time, Sabo created a special card for Luffy, called a Vivre Card, and shared it with several of his friends and allies. Even the Straw Hat Pirates themselves have a copy of this card.
My name is Monkey D. Luffy, and I’m going to become the Pirate King – I’ll be stronger than anyone! That’s what I told Big Mom and Kaido.
To see how these cards work, consider the early part of One Piece, before the time skip. Ace’s Vivre Card kept burning, ultimately guiding Luffy to Marine Headquarters. These cards don’t just point towards the person they belong to; they’re essentially linked to that person’s life force. The card burns as the owner’s life fades, making it a clear indicator of whether someone is still alive.
Luffy’s Friends Will Have To Come To His Rescue
Sabo, Bellamy, The Grand Fleet, And Straw Hats Have Luffy’s Vivre Card
Basically, the Straw Hat Grand Fleet will only spring into action when Luffy is in serious danger – specifically, when his special card, the Vivre Card, starts burning. Sabo will also rush to help if Luffy’s card is burning, and if Sabo isn’t with the Straw Hats, they’ll all go to him instead. Even Bellamy has one of Luffy’s cards, hinting he’ll play a role in the upcoming events. This setup strongly suggests we’ll see a rescue arc similar to the Marineford arc, but with a twist: this time, everyone will be trying to save Luffy. This creates a lot of anticipation for what’s coming next in One Piece.
Listen, I’ll come to Luffy’s rescue, no matter what. Even if I have to leave my duty. — Sabo
Luffy Will Be Saved
It’s safe to say Luffy won’t die – he’s the main character, and his friends will definitely come to his rescue. The Straw Hat Pirates will be at the heart of a huge war with significant repercussions, and fans are likely to enjoy it. While it might not be fun to see Luffy captured, that event could actually lead to the best story arc One Piece has ever had.
The newest chapter of One Piece, Chapter 1163, will be released this week, following the usual Sunday schedule. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday, most international fans can expect to read it on October 26, 2025. The chapter will be available for free on Manga Plus.
