Wow, I’ve been absolutely loving what’s happening with anime lately, and two shows really stand out: The Apothecary Diaries and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End! Frieren actually made history by becoming the highest-rated anime ever on MyAnimeList, which is incredible. But honestly, while Frieren is amazing, The Apothecary Diaries seems to be a massive hit in Japan – it’s unbelievably popular there, even if its MAL rating isn’t quite as high. It’s just reached a different level of cultural impact, it seems!
In Japan, The Apothecary Diaries has become a massive hit, becoming the most-streamed series of all time – even more popular than One Piece! The show’s main character, Maomao, was also a big winner, being named the best character of the year at the Grand Prix Awards. Her success didn’t stop there; she also won the Anime News Network’s Readers’ Choice Award in 2024 and was named leading woman of the year.
It feels like everyone in Japan is talking about The Apothecary Diaries! The show is so popular it’s already been renewed for more seasons, and a movie is planned for December 2026. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is also doing well, but its second season won’t arrive until January 2026.
