This article contains spoilers for the Demon Slayer series.
2025 has been a fantastic year for anime, largely thanks to the blockbuster movie, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza’s Return. The film has been a huge financial success, breaking numerous records and generating millions in profit. While the creators of Demon Slayer certainly deserve recognition for this achievement, it’s important to consider the broader impact this success will have on the anime industry as a whole.
The new Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie could negatively impact the anime industry. Its success proves how profitable anime movies can be, and many studios might start making movies to adapt entire story arcs instead of releasing them as traditional seasonal anime. While this might seem appealing, fans could end up waiting years for a complete story arc to be animated, as movies become the preferred method of adaptation.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’s Success Could Damage The Anime Industry
- The Movie’s Success Will Make Many Others Follow The Same Formula
- Anime Arcs Could Take Years to Adapt
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 – Akaza’s Return is now the most successful movie in the entire Demon Slayer series, breaking the records set by Mugen Train. It’s also become the highest-grossing anime film ever made, which is a huge accomplishment! This is just the first part of the conclusion to the Demon Slayer story, with two more movies still to come.
Let’s be honest, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was fantastic. The movie was a hit with fans who are already looking forward to the next two installments. However, this success creates a problem. Because Infinity Castle did so well, studios might decide to adapt story arcs as movies instead of full anime seasons. This means fans could end up waiting years for a series of movies to cover a single arc, instead of the usual yearly anime season. For example, Demon Slayer is spreading the Infinity Castle arc over six years, which is a long time! Waiting over five years to see a complete arc adapted will likely change the anime industry, and unfortunately, not for the better.
Demon Slayer Season 1 to 4 Took 5 Years To Adapt Arcs
Demon Slayer’s Movie Trilogy Will Take The Same Amount of Time For One Arc
The final arc of Demon Slayer will be a lengthy one, unfolding over several years through a series of movies. The first movie came out in 2025, and it’s likely fans won’t see the second until 2027 and the third until 2029. Overall, it’s expected to take at least 5 to 6 years to complete this final story arc.
Wow, it’s amazing to look at how quickly Demon Slayer has blown up! The first season dropped in 2019, and since then – just in the last 5 years – we’ve gotten four full seasons of anime, a brand new movie, and a compilation movie! It really shows that the studio can adapt a lot of story material in the time it would take another studio to make just one movie. If other anime start doing things this way, it could mean arcs take years to finish, and honestly, it could totally change the anime landscape forever. It’s a really exciting possibility!
The latest story arc, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, is available now. If you don’t want to wait for the animated version, you can read it in the manga on Manga Plus. The anime currently has four seasons, all of which are streaming on Crunchyroll. The rest of the story will be released as movies, and fans will need to see them in theaters when they become available in their country.
