Despite what happens in the story, the creator of Cyberpunk really wants Keanu Reeves to return for the next Cyberpunk 2077 game, and jokingly hinted he’s already planning how to make it happen.
The Cyberpunk tabletop game, originally created by Mike Pondsmith in 1998, has been a favorite among role-playing game fans for years. In 2020, CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher games, adapted its dark, futuristic world into a video game. Though the game had a rocky start, updates and the critically acclaimed anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, turned it into a popular title. Many remember the massive anticipation surrounding the game in the late 2010s, especially when Keanu Reeves was revealed to be playing Johnny Silverhand. Reeves’ performance as the rebellious rocker was a standout feature, considering how much time players spend with his character. While the game’s endings don’t offer much opportunity for Silverhand to return, the original creator might have a solution to bring him back.
Mike Pondsmith Wants Keanu Reeves Back for Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
During a recent livestream, the creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game, Mike Pondsmith, spoke with the CD Projekt Red team about Cyberpunk 2077. Around the one-hour point, he shared his thoughts on Keanu Reeves’ performance as Johnny Silverhand.
Mike Pondsmith recently mentioned seeing Keanu Reeves express interest in reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand, even if it meant finding a way for the character to return from death. Pondsmith jokingly offered to help make that happen, publicly inviting Reeves to get in touch.
Considering the success of the DLC featuring Idris Elba, it’s understandable Keanu Reeves would be interested in returning for more. If the creator, Mike Pondsmith, wants him involved and can make it work, it’s a real possibility. While we don’t have a release date for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel yet – CD Projekt Red is currently focused on the next Witcher game – fans won’t have to wait too long to revisit Night City, as a second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners is already in the works.
